Quotes To Live By!

Recommended Posts

“Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!” Hunter S Thompson

I posted this on another thread a while back but it's worth sharing again.

I have a friend who had/has a poster in her kitchen:

Don't dig your grave with your own knife and fork.

Thanks for posting. I got the chills when I read it. I'm going to put this on a post-it and stick it on my monitor.

Image result for a ship in port is safe

I've considered getting this tattooed on me somewhere.

I am often too reserved in times where i wish i wasn't. I'm hoping my weight loss journey helps me open up to adventure.

YES! Do it! Iv'e written this many times here but in case you haven't seen it I decided WLS for me was hitting the reset button on my life. I was active when I was fat and did all kinds of things you don't see a lot of fat people doing - skiing, river kayaking, snorkeling, etc. But there were plenty of things I said no to. Particularity if they involved formal dress, costumes,  or any outfit that wasn't mainly black.

Since WLS I run, scuba dive, rock climb. I've stood up in two weddings. (Once I got to 225 I stopped being in people's weddings.) I go to concerts all the time. If can't find someone who wants to go, I go by myself. Pre-op I never would have gone to see an old punk band I used to love at a bar by myself knowing the crowd would be 70% drunk men.

I made a list of things I wanted to do/try when I was pre-op. This helped me stay focused on before and after surgery. I am so excited for you!!!!!

A few years ago, in a moment of encouragement, someone said this quote to me.  The quote just wouldn't leave my mind...and eventually it inspired me to write this....

A ship may be safe in the harbor, but that’s not what ships were built for.

She is a mighty ship, strong and resilient.  Never to have sprung a leak despite being run aground many times by her foolish captain.

On a lifelong voyage, my soul is the captain, my heart a mere passenger, braving the pirate seas together.

Battling each other, whether they should fight the thieves, or surrender and risk the sting of the salt air on open wounds, having my heart smeared along the hull, to be washed away by the waves.

All to feel the freedom of the wind in my face, the embrace of the water along my weathered wooden planks.

Sails tattered but pure, they weather the storms, with the mercy of an angel.

~AliPat~
