What Are You Wearing Today?

Recommended Posts

I was a premie but from photo's starting at about 6 months old, it was pretty clear that my mother did a good job feeding me up.  To fend off hurtful school yard comments, my mother constantly told me that I was big boned but nothing was further from the truth because after I lost my excess weight, I found out that my frame was small.

My shoe size went from a 7 - 8 extra wide down to a 5 1/2.  My wedding ring went from an 8 down to a 4 at my lowest but ended up having it resized to a 4.5.

As @NerdyToothpick @Aussie H and @Cheesehead said, I have always been considered “big boned” - I have big shoulders, wrists, ankles, knees - but even with those, I’m still fitting into a UK 10-12 now. In many tops, my shoulders are what determine my size, but I’m still buying S or sometimes XS :o

It’s all a big surprise where you’ll end up, but it’ll likely be somewhere smaller than what you think.

it is weird to think I will be "small" but honestly I hid behind the big bones lie for years bc it let you go to the bigger side of the weight chart, but in all honesty, I have always had very petite wrists and not only did my middle finger and thumb touched (overlapped) when around my wrist but my ring finger and thumb also (easily with extra to spare), and if i tried even the index finger would touch my thumb!  So, I have always assumed there is a tiny person buried amongst all this fat just crying to get out!  I think she will surface at the end of the year! ;)

“I’m still in the 180’s”???? @Nana Trish, not only have you lost an incredible amount of weight but you are at a respectable weight in the 100’s. Give yourself more credit! You look incredible! I know you feel good, too.

Just my two cents- My waist has always been thick and is still the thickest part of my body. It sounds like we have similar builds. You’ll learn to dress around your waist and be more comfortable in your skin. No pun intended. :):)

Yeah, lol, still in the 180's :) I didn't mean that to sound like I was putting myself down, or that I'm not satisfied with my current weight. This was from a clothing standpoint only. I do feel good...better than I have in years actually. I'll feel even better once the scale starts moving again, but I'm not freaking out about it like I would have in the past. This is my first real stall, albeit self induced, since surgery...and I think that's pretty amazing.

The whole thing with my waist...I'm not sure it's going to get as small as I'd like it to (I'm not looking to be a size 6). But I would eventually like to try on some normal pants and have them look and feel good. I'll never give up my leggings, but I don't want to only have leggings or skirts to choose from. I've heard you mention having a thick waist as well, so it sounds like we do have some similarities. But I swear, it looks like the only place left on my body that could possibly lose weight is my stomach, and the inches are not coming off very quickly at all. The rest of my body looks like I weigh around 150-155. I know 20.5 inches off my waist is nothing to sneeze at, but I still need to lose 10 more. Hopefully once I'm at or below goal, I will be able to find things I'm more comfortable in that aren't leggings, lol.

Oh and I can't remember if you posted a link or not for your Cush Tush, but my tailbone is absolutely killing me 23 hours a day now, ugh. If you have a link, can you remind me where you posted it? If not, I'll google it :) I'm always afraid to google things with body parts in the name...I don't like porn popping up on my screen

@Nana Trish Oh my beloved Tush Cush. It’s pricey but worth every single cent to paid for the durn thing.

Tush Cush Original Orthopedic Seat Cushion - Navy https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000AQE2EY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_CdKBAbW2D12Q4

I know every body is different, so I can’t put yourself in your shoes. I was truly shocked at how much smaller my waist has become after WLS. I’m a 4/6 in most pants but it also depends on the style. I wore a size 10 pant yesterday and it was big everywhere, except the waist.

@NerdyToothpick...thank you for the link!! This was bothersome at first, but it's getting seriously painful at this point, no matter where I sit. I use cushions, pillows, etc...nothing is working. I can feel the bone protruding and I'm considering putting a call into my ortho to see if this is a normal result of this much weight loss. When I rock Harper to sleep, I feel like there is a sharp piece of glass where my tailbone should be

I don't honestly think my waist will get as small as yours, but I started out over 100 pounds heavier than you did, therefore I have much more loose skin...plus you are a lot taller than I am. I'll be satisfied no matter where I end up at this point, but I was just hoping to have a few more clothing options. In the grand scheme of things, I suppose it doesn't matter all that much, lol. The amount of time I spend in dressy or more formal clothes is very little, so no biggie. I just want my tailbone to stop feeling like it's trying to burrow through my skin...ouch!!

In the end, we all become flat butted, I think :(

I've always had a booty, but no more. Mine has disappeared almost entirely. Time for some squats! Maybe muscle is a better cushion, anyway...

You have my commiserations Trish.  I'm sure you read my thread on the subject but just in case Lost my bum and my coccyx hurts!

I suffered for months - couldn't sit in a tub, had to be ultra careful when I sat on the toilet in case my tailbone caught on the back of it, could not have a bath and spent months pretty much sitting on one side or the other of my bottom.  I bought one of these which helped enormously.  Orthopedic Coccyx Memory Foam Seat Cushion

The only consolation I can offer is that it does get better ... eventually. :(

For better or worse, I'm glad it's normal. It'll save me a trip to yet another doctor knowing it is. My butt is definitely flatter than it was, but not completely flat yet. I swear I'm losing weight really weird...it's like all of the cushion around my tailbone is completely gone, but I still have cushioning in the outer butt area, lol. This is just one of those things I never expected. But I guess we can't tell how it's going to come off until it does.

I think muscle is a better cushion. I'm in trouble on that front too. I have a LOT of muscle wasting. I'm hoping once I start walking, that will help my lower body. I've got to start lifting some light weights (probably starting with Dumbbells) because it's really noticible in my arms too...but my legs are way worse. I can't do squats, so I hope walking helps my tush.

Yeah, I read your thread :( I'm sorry you had to deal with all of that too. I swear, we need to write a book about all of the things that happen to your body after WLS that no one tells you beforehand. Thank you for the link. I'm going to check it out. I've gotta do something sooner rather than later. It's just so strange that we got rid of so many health problems with our weight loss, and gained a bunch of different issues. I'd still do it again a thousand times, but ouch...

@Nana Trish, @NerdyToothpick, @Jen581791 and @cinwa

I am reading through you ladies' butt chat....and laughing of course, but then again, who knew????  I have so much cushioning that I can't even imagine having your problem! EVER!!!  But truth be told, I COULD ACTUALLY run into your dilemma!

However, I am realizing that I am losing weight faster than my body is prepared for!  I keep thinking I was SO excited to lose weight fast, as if it was a race.  Before I had the surgery and knew how it worked, I used to day dream and think "I could be a size _____ by my birthday" or "I could fit into _______ by Christmas".  And I don't mean to complain, it is sooooo totally awesome that in 3 months, I have lost nearly 50#....I have NEVER had that happen before and if you told me that was possible, I'd have signed up even if it cost $1,000,000 plus my firstborn....BUT it is actually a little too much too fast that I can't adjust.  I can't keep up with the clothes (again, I didn't think that would be a problem that would drive me nuts, but there was a shirt that was too tight before, I tried it on yesterday and was swimming in it!  so I don't stay one size long enough to get my use out of clothes....I never even got to wear that one!).  The other issue is my skin.....I noticed bat wings the other day like I have never seen before...I didn't think I'd have a problem bc my arms weren't that big to begin with (not small of course but not super huge).....but now I see a surprisingly tiny upper arm and am shocked that the same amount of muscle is overtop of the same amount of hanging skin!!!  What the heck?!?!?!  It isn't like I lost 100# and I have been this size plenty of times before and never have had these arms...but I think it is the pace and which it is coming off!    And to top it off, as I was standing in front of the mirror looking at my batwings and sighing, I noticed that there was actually lose skin over top of my bra band!!! I used to have back/side fat but now that it is gone (yay!) it left behind its empty shell....and it isn't pretty!  I knew that I'd have extra skin....just not this soon!!!!    So, yes, I am whining and it sounds like I am just being a jerk but really if there was a way to slow it down and let my body catch up, I'd have been happy with that also! (too bad that band didn't work out because that could be adjusted and then I would slow it down for a bit!)

ME EITHER! I thought they'd get slimmer...so not an 8W but just an 8, or possibly a 7.5 but never smaller!  That is unbelievable!

@CheeringCJ,

I think some of what is happening is due to how fast the weight is coming off, but I almost think it has more to do with being in ketosis. The fat burn with ketosis is crazy, and in my case, the uneven weight loss is also (I think) a result of ketosis.

When I first started losing, my bat wings were huge, and got worse. But now that I’ve lost 155, even my bat wings are smaller than I could have imagined they would be. I don’t think you are whining or being a jerk at all. Nothing about this process is what I imagined it would be before surgery. I did exactly the same thing you did. Used to daydream about being xx weight by Christmas, etc. Even that...we have absolutely no idea how much we will weigh by a certain day/week/month. I can see wanting it to slow down. I never wished that for myself, but after I lost a certain amount of weight, my face started to look emaciated to me. Hubby and kids said no, but to me it did. But my stomach still looks huge to me. Hubby and kids say no to that too.

This butt thing though. O M G. Never would have thought of this. I was the queen of tush cushion, and now it’s gone. I hope for your sake this doesn’t happen to you. Right this moment, Harper is sound asleep on me and I feel like my tailbone is poking through my skin :(

When I imagined this process, I had no idea I would have so much trouble with clothes, bras and sore bones. Don’t get me wrong...I would do it again in a heartbeat. I just wish I could have imagined the struggles as well as the good stuff. And loose skin? I even have loose skin on my forearms! That’s the part that most of us will have to deal with. I WAS expecting that, but it doesn’t bother me nearly as much as I thought it would...lol.

Any chance you can add in a few extra calories to slow things down a little? Just a thought. (((Hugs)))

@CheeringCJ my skin got looser, and then tightened up a bit, and then got looser, and then tightened up a bit, and now my bat wings are much smaller. Can't guarantee your results, but that may happen to you as well. At this point, I have some loose skin on my upper arms and on my thighs, and just a bit on my stomach that's not noticeable if I'm standing (sitting is different!). You're not being unreasonable in complaining - the loose skin is different on everyone, and on most people it's... not exactly what you want to end up with. Much better than skin that's nice and taut but full of fat! ;)

As for the clothing, yeah, that's hard if you're losing fast. I went through a lot of sizes pretty fast, and am just now starting to be able to buy stuff that will last longer (I think!). That said, I'm running a couple of cardigans through the wash on extra hot right now to try to shrink them. I bought them in November, I think... Strategic purchases can cut down on that: think tunic tops or dresses that you can wear with leggings and throw a belt around once they get too big.

Dress my amazing husband bought me for Christmas. Finally got to wear it out this past Friday night to the Joe Rogan show Size 10 by Guess. I don't love the pic because amazing husband isn't an amazing photographer and my bat wings are in full view. But I really did feel stellar.

I was forced back into the bath tub by a particularly nasty annoyingly located abcess..... 4 times a day....OUCH!!!! I ended up cutting up an old yoga mat and putting that in the bath. It took the coccyx pain out of the equation at least, but it was a bit of a fight to stop it floating.

I’m still bigger than I want or should be at 19 months out. But I’m celebrating the 100 I’ve already lost. I went from a size 30 to a size 16.

I'm struggling that you weigh 267lb.  I know that I'm a couple of inches shorter than you but that's pretty much what I started out at and I definitely looked morbidly obese which you don't.

Doesn’t she look good?! I can see it, but only because I had almost identical stats at one time (I’m just a bit more bottom heavy at that weight). @purplemartini you look great and have made amazing progress. Don’t be too hard on yourself for not losing more because I’m willing to bet, if you stick with the program, the weight will keep coming off. In the meantime, keep celebrating your achievements. You look fabulous and really know how to dress to flatter your figure.
