Another reason I need to have WLS...

Recommended Posts

My main reason is because I have diabetes....I need to solve that health issue.

I have wavered between WLS and going full-fledged vegan. However, on Friday, I got my hair colored and cut, was feeling good, and had a scheduled appointment to have a head shot done as I've just started writing a column in the local newspaper.

The photographer was the newspaper photographer, so professional, knows what he is doing. Just saw my published photo, and SO winced! I have such a big, round face. And I had lost (and regained, of course) 50 pounds a few years ago on a liquid diet and my face had slimmed way down, so this was a shock - I didn't think I looked that big. And then, right after I had the photo taken, went to the optomotrist, and the ladies glasses were too small; I had to get men's to fit me right. Which, I like a tailored look, but just killed my day.

I'm ready. Next week I have my first psych appointment; then at the end of March I have my final psych, final nut, then they will submit. I'm ready!!! I'm even at the point that food is just not appealing much to me anymore.

Anyone else have a slap in the face to prompt you on this path or make you carry through?

Good luck to you.

I'm confused though, you're either having WLS or going vegan? Are you under the impression that by going vegan that you can lose and maintain a normal weight? Do you think it will resolve your diabetes?

I understand about the pictue thing, I too was always shocked when I'd see a picture of myself, especially my giant round face.

My DL still has my pre-op pic and just yesterday I used it at a casino and the lady, said wow you've really lost weight and look great.

The WLS was definately worth it for me.

Ms_Independent, good luck!! I too had diabetes, was told since I had had it so long there was a good chance it may not be resolved with surgery; but I am so happy to say it is and all my blood sugars are in normal range and yesterday it was even below. I wish you luck!! I basically eat no carbs (no bread, potatoes, or rice) I'm too afraid of it coming back. I think my turning point was the airplane seat being too cramped (didn't need a selt belt extention) last year on vacation. I spent most of my vacation thinking about checking into WLS. So I started the wheels a rolling when I got back last year and here I am:) Looking forward to May this year to see how the seats fit:)

hun a photo finalized my decision too. i went of vacation and actually allowed someone to take a full body picture of myself. i had NO IDEA. My PCP had suggested the surgery roughly a year earlier and i knew i wasn't ready (after some initial appointments i got scared off and i def wasn't ready) well i was in a much better place emotionally and i saw that pic and went home and made calls immediately!!

sorry i'm blabbing, you just hit a spot when you said that.

glasses? forget about it. the people at lenscrafters were always like "oh.. no.. those aren't too small!" HA!

I totally understand...

My story is long-ish and quite painful. But it started me on the road to health so I owe that witch a debt of gratitude.

I'll keep it short.

My husband and I were riding our Honda scooters, just messing around in the country one day and we had to stop to check one of my tires.  I had on a loose sundress and weighed about 220ish.

We were looking at my tire when I looked up and sitting in a truck right in front of us was a young, thin woman taking pictures (or maybe video) of me and laughing and pointing at her camera.

Sheer devastation and humiliation.  I called the next day and attended the very next seminar.  If I ever see her again I will hug her and thank her ...and fight the urge to slap her into the next county.

I've had strangers take photos of me eating in restaurants. What the hell is wrong with some people, seriously.

I was on a roller coaster and couldn't get the harness latched.  After holding up the ride, I had to exit by myself....with what felt like a few hundred people looking at me.
