4 Mo. Post GBS and Pregnant/PCOS

Recommended Posts

Hello All,

This topic is a ray of hope for all you ladies who have had to deal with infertility issues. Here's a little about my story: I have been married for almost 17 1/2 years, dh and I decided to not have a baby right away because we were enjoying our new marriage, and besides I was only 21 when we married, so I went on BC for about 3 years not knowing I was going to have problems conceiving. When we decided to start trying it just never happened on it's own, my OB/GYN diagnosed me with PCOS and after a few rounds of clomid we basically gave up, after trying on our own for about 8 yrs. we decided to seek professional help. In 2003 we started seeing a Fertility Specialist who put me on meds to stimulate my ovaries and help with ovulation, I ended up pregnant almost right away, unfortunately that pregnancy ended @ 22 weeks gestation due to premature labor and baby didn't make it (Isaac 3/20/04) it was a BOY!! After grieving a few months we decided to give it a second try, almost a year later I was pregnant again!! But this time we never saw a heartbeat just a gestational sac, I was told by my OB that most likely I had already miscarried, I had been having some bleeding throughout the first few weeks of pregnancy, another heartache to bare!! I can't remember how long it was before we decided to try again, once again we ended up pregnant this time with twins!! Imagine our excitement!! This pregnancy too failed, it ended in miscarriage AGAIN!! Our last attempt was in 2006 we opted(by doctor's recomendation to try IVF) our egg retrieval and fertilization was a success, we had a total of 6 embryos ready to be transfered when ready, my body needed to be prepared for this new adventure, unfortunately it never reached readiness, for some reason I was no longer producing enough lining to hold an embryo and doctor suggested Surrogacy. By this point we were frustrated, hearbroken and not to mention BROKE!!! We never went through with it, we just couldn't afford it. We gave up and have been having unprotected sex since then. Don't know if i'm going to have enough room so I am going to cut to the chase. Had GBS in January 2011, had a period in March and April all on my own for the first time in many, many years, we used (protection) in March but thought there's no way we can get pregnant and didn't use anything in April. Well surprise, surprise!!! I took a pregnancy test on Saturday May 21st because aunt flo hadn't shown up, and lo and behold it was POSITIVE!!!! Let me tell you, we are still floating on cloud 9!! Since Satruday I have taken a total of 6 tests and all have been positive!! I'm down 84 lbs and PREGNANT!! and 39 yrs. old!!! : ) Ladies there is hope!!! It took me 17 1/2 years, 84 lbs lost, 1 pre-term labor, 2 miscarriages and many heartaches for this to finally happen, there is no way I am going to worry about it being to soon after GBS, because in the long run I am much more healthy now than I was before at 267 lbs!! My OB has been very positive about me getting pregnant, she has told me everything I need to know and how to prepare my body before I ended up pregnant, I love her, and she's a woman, so she's gotta know how I feel. I have my 1st appt. to see her on Tuesday the 31st and am hoping I have an ultrasound to see the hearbeat!! Wish me luck and will periodically check in. LADIES!! THERE IS HOPE!! I AM A GOOD EXAMPLE!! I AM SO STOKED!!!

Congratulations!! Your story went straight to my heart! You certainly have endured enough heartache for a life time and are due joy that this little one will bring. I'm so excited for you...with all the pregnancy stories I've seen lately looks like you gals have a support group within TT - and I hope I do not repeat the trend, although I LOVE LOVE LOVE children, I am beyond that stage of life ... of course if it did happen, I would love it beyond measure and hope it'd make me a wealthy celebrity so I could retire to raise it B) (I am 55 and post menopausal due to complete hysterectomy)

OMG...Congratulations...I am sooo very happy for you...this brought me to tears!! I was also diagnosed with PCOS & my husband & I have been trying to concieve for over 12 yrs now. The last visit to our fertility specialist was March of 2010 & ended with him telling me to think about having GBP or Lap band to lose 70lbs before they would do invitro on me because the risks of miscarriage are so high with pcos & being over wieght. So that is actually why I decided to have GBP....the weight loss is definately a bonus but for me the true reason is to try to get pregnant!! Your story is such an inspiration & I am so thankful that you shared this it brought me so much hope! ~ Lea

Hi Lea,

Your story is so similar to mine, I know all the ups and downs of infertility myself. To tell you the truth I never thought I would end up pregnant so fast, I mean how can it change from having severe PCOS in January to becoming pregnant in April? Crazy!! But I am basking in the joyfullness of pregnancy, hope and faith should be your first priority, I know that's where I am at now. I had an ultrasound done on Wednesday July 7th and was able to see my little bundle of joy in the oven for the first time, and let me tell you, it's the best experience ever, I cried, so on that day based on measurements I was 11wks 1day pregnant, loving all the attention I am getting, I not only look and feel good cause i've lost all that weight but now I keep getting compliments that I GLOW too!! And i've even lost 3 more lbs, and believe me i'm not starving myself. I notice your surgery is coming up, good luck and keep me posted on your progress. Hope to hear from you soon.

Carmen

Congrats on your new little one!!! I hope that you continue to come back and keep us updated. I don't have a story like yours because I never tried to get pregnant but once, but that one time was after GBS and it only took me a week to get pregnant. :o

Carmen your story inspires me! I too lost a baby due to preterm labor at 20 weeks. (RIP Caroline 9/14/07) I KNOW in my heart it was because of my weight since there was no other reason found. I am now 35 and single and one of the major factors for me having WLS is to give myself at least a CHANCE at having a baby in this lifetime. I hope you are well and 6 months pregnant at this point! God bless.

Hello ladies,

Sorry I haven't posted in such a long time, it hasn't been an easy pregnancy, but am glad to say I am still pregnant at almos 34 weeks!! I have a high risk pregnancy and have been in and out of the hospital with pre-term complications but all has been under control finally since like week 30, complications have nothing to do with GB surgery, I have a very incompetent cervix, so doctor had to do an emergency cerclage to keep the baby inside as long as possible and it has worked!! I am 2 weeks away from 36 weeks, this is when they will be removing the cerclage and I can go into labor anytime after that with no risks to the baby, it has been a long, long wait but I am finally getting there, I am having a GIRL!! Miranda is her name and can't wait to hold her in my arms, only thing that I think is an outcome from the surgery is that she is a little behind on weight, but doctor tells me she looks healthy and I need to fatten her up before she comes, it is still a little hard for me to eat since it hasn't been a year since I had my surgery, and believe it or not I haven't gained any weight (not to proud of this) cause this means baby doesn't gain too much weight either, I started at 184 when I found out I was pregnant and today i'm down to 177 and to top it all off I have Gestational Diabetes and really can't eat things that would help to gain some weight, but as long as she is healthy and it seems like she is. I will try to keep up with the postings and let you all know how things are going. : o )

My niece had to have the same thing done. They told her she would be lucky to hold the baby in till 24 weeks, well she did and had the baby at 36 weeks. Amazing what they can do now a days. Glad to hear things are going better. Congrats on you little girl. It seems to be the year of the girl! SO far everyone I know that is pregnant is having a girl. I like the name Miranda it used to be my fake name when I went out. :P Don't worry about the baby too much you can fatten her up when she comes out.

I am so glad to hear all is going well. What a wonderful story. I too have PCOS and I know just how hard it is to conceive. We now have 3 beautiful children, but it took a lot of work to get there.

I also want to add that other that with my two girls I weighed less when I had them then I did when I got pregnant. It was simply due to the fact that I was eating far healthier since I was eating for two. They were both healthy as can be. In fact my middle child was exactly on the 50th percentile for height and for weight. The baby will get nutrients before you do. She will be perfectly fine.

UPDATE:

Hello ladies,

I am back to give you all the great news that my baby girl Miranda came into this world via c-section on Dec. 30th, 2011. Momma had a few complications but nothing that came from GB surgery, she came a little early @ 36 weeks 4 days, weighed 4 lbs 14 oz, measured 18.5 inches, she was a tiny little doll, even with such little weight she was born healthy, didn't need any help with breathing or anything else and was able to go home with mommy, she is now 3 1/2 weeks and has gained a little more than 2 lbs. i'm sure by now she's a little over 7 lbs!! I went in to deliver her weighing 184 lbs and am happy to report that today only 3 1/2 weeks later i'm down to 156 lbs!!! Incredible!! I am happy as can be with my new baby, but don't think I can do it again, I will enjoy her to the max and let her be an only child so that I can spoil her rotten.post-12672-0-56552700-1327451829_thumb.j I have attached a picture of her, hopefully it can be viewed.

Oh Happy Days!!!!
