Absorption of protein intake

I am wondering how much protein can my body absorb at one time. For example I make an 10 ounce glass of skim milk and protein powder that claims to have in it 50 grams of protein. How much of that 50 grams does my body actually absorb. At a weight of 173 what formula should I be looking at in terms of calculating my protein daily requirements ?

I don't know how much protein you actually absorb as a function of the amount you eat. I suppose it may vary by food type. The general rule is that you should shoot for 50 to 60 grams a day early on. I know this may sound like heresy, but it may not be especially critical since most people do well even if they don't measure the amount of protein they consume. Do what you can to eat a variety of types of protein, and don't worry about it too much.
