medication post op

Recommended Posts

I had no problem taking oral medications after surgery. It is probably worth checking with your normal doctor though whether medications you require post-op are available in either liquid or chewable/crushable form.

I don't know what depression meds you're taking but if you do a Google on them, it should tell you whether you can pull the two ends of the capsule apart and dump the contents into a spoon of yogurt (or whatever).

Having said that, I was able to swallow pills and capsules with no problem.

Failing that, talk with your PCP and/or surgeon about alternatives

Yep, ask your surgeon. I had to take capsule medication twice a day, and for the first 6 weeks, my surgeon had me open up the capsules and put the powder in an ounce of water. It was bitter, but doable.
