Nana Trish

I’m overweight now!!

Recommended Posts

I just have time for a quick check in right now...but my BMI hit 29.9 this AM!! No more ‘obese’ for me :D

Another quick note, more later...my urologist called yesterday and said I need an MRI of my kidney, because although the mass is the same size, the density has changed. It’s a fasting MRI with contrast scheduled for tomorrow morning at 10:30am. I’ll post an update on this when I get results :)

Time to get my “overweight” butt in the kitchen to feed Harper his lunch ❤️

I wasn't sure if I should hit the like button or not!  Great news on the weight front, sorry to hear you're still in the dark on your kidney mass.  :(  I hope you get the results really soon!  Waiting sucks.

That is absolutely outstanding Trish.  You've come a long way my friend - 336.6 down to 185.2 lb and be out of the obese category is something to celebrate for sure.

WTG hun! Its so funny to me that according to the BMI index you are overweight, cause I think you look absolutely amazing! Truly well deserved, and what a milestone to reach :D

Try not to worry until you have to about the MRI-easier said than done I know. You are in my thoughts and prayers though. You hang in there and focus on what is in your control at the moment. You are one tough Nana!

“Like” away, my friend :) The post was more about being out of the obese category anyway, lol...the MRI stuff is just an update

Thank you, @cinwa!! Definitely wanting to celebrate being able to banish the word “obese” from my chart forever...and being back on track and watching the scale drop a little now ^_^

Thanks, Gretta!!

I was thinking that exact thing about the MRI machine :) I used to be too heavy for the one they use in our local hospital (300 pound weight limit), so they would send me to another building where they did imaging on the big folks. I’m not dreading it at all this time! The woman from imaging just called me, and she asked my weight...I had to think about it for a minute, and I almost said 285, lol :P

Thank you, ladybugzzz!! I’m not worrying about it until I know for sure there is something to worry about. I had thyroid cancer in 2016, and got through that ok. Even if the kidney turns out to be cancer, I’ll get through that ok too ❤️

Congratulations Trish. I remember that feeling so well. For me it came with the double barrelled relief that I finally was under the BMI limit for orthopedic surgery.

It took a real fight with my doctor to get him to remove "obesity" from my medical chart though. He claimed obesity is a "life long condition" to which I responded that if that was the case then why do doctors always nag us to lose weight.....makes that request kind of pointless!!!! That part of our medical charts automatically copies onto any specialist referral letters, and I actually insisted he remove it and added that he'd look like a total idiot if that was on my letters and I rocked up to appointments as a thin person.

The way my chart reads, it shows active conditions and former (cured, remission, etc) conditions. I guess I don’t really expect it to be removed, but having them put “overweight” as my current status is just as good :) Then again, they still have me listed as having high BP and cholesterol as active, which it no longer is. Ive already told my new primary care doc that I want it removed as soon as I reach “overweight” status, and she seemed very amenable to it! She even told me how many pounds I needed to lose to get there, but I already knew lol.

And you’re absolutely right...being labeled as obese after successfully losing weight, and showing up to appointments as a thin person, does make him look like an idiot

I can imagine you were definitely doubly happy to reach this stage since you needed the ortho surgery :) Speaking of which, how is the foot feeling? ❤️

One important fact I forgot to add...I’ve also lost 45% of my total body weight!!

Congratulations on being overweight @Nana Trish! I know what you mean. I was so excited to get out of the "obese" category. That's such an ugly word!  I'll will pray for good results from the MRI. Let us know how it goes.

Congrats!  No more obese for you!  I still think in terms of putting a 2 in front of my weight.  It was there for so many years!

I see it on the scale everyday...but whenever someone asks my weight, it’s almost automatic to say 2something. Even though I was in the 300’s for 6 years. Still sounds unrealistic to say 185, lol

As of Thursday's call from my orthopaedic surgeon, I'm now allowed to wean myself off the moonboot.  That's a big Yay!!!! for me. The ortho says that bone regeneration seems to be kicking up....I did double up on calcium, added magnesium supplements, and make sure to keep my estrogen patch up to date. Not sure if that played any part or not, but I didn't think it would hurt under the circumstances. I'm now allowed very limited non-weightbearing exercise with very strict conditions attached, so that's a bonus. My new family doctor isn't convinced though as he says the radiology report from the new scan shows zero bone regeneration since the surgery back in August. I'm putting all my faith in the orthopaedic surgeon's reading of the scan at this point. Given how hard he came down regarding the moonboot and no exercise after the first scan, it wouldn't make sense for him to back off after the recent scan unless he really did see the significant growth he says he can see.

Wow...all the way back in August...I forgot just how long it has been!! I bet you will be SO happy when you’re finally rid of your boot, @Aussie H :D It’s a little scary that both docs have such different interpretations of the scan. Please take it slow as you start your weight bearing exercise though. I’d really hate to see you end up back in your boot!

@Nana Trish believe me I will take it slow. I rarely been home since the call, and today is another scorcher here so won't be doing anything. Back to the city on the weekend as I have to see my new (old) doctor again. It's a 4 hour drive each way but hopefully worth it if I get quality care again. I'll get the report then, he just mentioned it as I walked in wearing the moonboot still. Last visit he was working through all the older medical records, so we haven't really touched on the recent stuff yet....including the RNY as well as the foot surgery. I was a tad annoyed that he started with the old stuff that I didn't think mattered instead of the current stuff that clearly is what needs to be managed. That said I did choose to return to him because he's thorough.

Oh and joy of joys, my idiot dietician dumped me yesterday as she's moving interstate  next week. So no more poor advice from her that I've been told to listen to but ignore!!!!
