Not sure what happened

Recommended Posts

This is the second time this happened in the last 2 weeks.  I ate out on Sunday and stayed on plan.  Later that night my heart started to pound and I got cramps, started to sweat and ended up in the bathroom.  I almost passed out and felt disoriented.  The same thing happened the week before right after I ate dinner, but without the pounding heart rate.  I am almost 3 years out and this has never happened before.  It kind of sounds like dumping to me.  What do you think?  I felt okay the next day, but it was scary.  There was no sugar involved in these 2 episodes.

So sorry that happened. Is there something in the meals that is higher than usual? Maybe the meal was higher in carbs or sugar even though you made your goals for the day.

Nothing different about my food.  Salmon and spinach the first time the same way I always prepare.  This past Sunday chicken and veggies with some olive oil and garlic.  I ate very little and gave the rest to my son-in-law to take home.  I didn't call the doctor because I feel fine now.  I guess I will wait and see if it happens again and if it does I will call.  Would you call your primary or a specialist?

Palpitations/heart pounding is definitely worth asking your physician to evaluate.  You can let your primary care doc know, then get a referral to a cardiologist if needed.

My intention is not to scare you, but I've had rapid heartbeat problems in the past pre-surgery and they came with digestive symptoms (nausea, cramps) so it's not even necessarily food or wls related, and women often have different symptoms with the heart than men do.   Please do check things out.  Better safe than sorry, right?

Wishing you all the best.

Sounds like sugar crashing to me - I get all sweaty/clammy, feel like I'm going to hurl and have blacked out for a couple seconds (no cramps though).  My episodes have happened when I went too long without eating though.  And it is not set time and I there is no specific pattern.  3 hours not eating might do it and yet I've done 6 hours many times and it hasn't.

I have that happen several times minus the heart pounding. Usually after I go to the bathroom I am fine. I figure it's dumping so I haven't ever asked.

Thanks everyone for your responses.  Winzi I should be following up with a cardiologist as they picked something up on my cardiogram when I had a car accident some months back.  Jolls I have never had a problem with a sugar crash before, but who knows it could be.  Time will tell.

That is so scary.  I hope everything is okay.  Definitely follow up with your cardiologist.  Let us know what he says!

You are so far out from your WLS surgery that I really would not attribute it to that. Also, having had a sleeve, not a bypass, you shouldnt encounter dumping. You def want to run this by your primary care doc. It could be a number of non W/lS related issues. Good luck.
