  1. My pain is worse than ever now... My lumbar issues have turned into lumbar-cervical-thoracic issues... I have many bad disks now.. I can not imagine this pain if I were 399lbs!! I am still loosing.. I'm down to 221 THANK GOD! I'm still sleeping in a hospital bed for past two years ... Still in Phys therapy... On enough pain med to sedate an elephant... Unable to walk w/o limp... And still working full time despite my doctors telling me to quit! Who can afford it?? I literally work during week and was for Saturday- don't get out of my recliner until work again on Monday... I set from miserably fat and lazy to miserably in pain and unable to do anything! I HATE where I am with my back.... But LOVE where I am with my weight .... I can't help this has something to do with the surgery.... What u said (sorry, can't remember who) about building up core strength BEFORE the surgery makes sense! If only I had known before So sorry for the rest of you having to deal with this.... This is the latest MRI results from April 2013 (year before my surgery my cervical and thoracic spine MRI were totally normal - I never had a lumbar before surgery) Graft at C3-4 there is minimal disc bulge C4-5 mild broad based disc bulge C5-6 minimum disc bulge C3-4 minimal narrowing right neural foramen Minimal disc space narrowing and end plate osteophytes in lower thoracic spine T11-12 DDD - mild degenerative signal ___ endplates - mild disk narrowing -early Osteophyte formation T6-7 shallow right ventral disk protrusion L3-4 broad based disc bulge and facet change - minimal narrowing of left neuroforamen L4-5 broad based bulge and facet change - neuroforamina patent L5-S1 broad based disc bulge - neuroforamina grossly patent
  2. before my next back surgery on June5 I need to update again
  3. I am almost 3 yrs out.. Lost 175 lb forever!! This surgery gave me a life!! I love my decision!! Yep- here's the big ole BUT! BUT... The past year and half have been a living HELL! I had wls September 2009... In Nov 2010I began with unexplained back pain radiating into foot. Went on an already planned Disney vaca -- 7 days of torture, pain and unbelievable anguish followed by an excruciating 12 ride home in fetal position in back of minivan... Making the long story short: Feb 2011 total foot drop- many tests, imaging, etc then L4-5 L5-S1 non-instrument fusion and left nerve root freeing low back surgery 3 wks later- Failed fusion- back surg #2 - fusion revision and fix 2 wks later- legs still weak/numb and I fall flat on rear in bathroom causing worst pain ever! Next day i fall off carport- break left tibula and fibula and shattering knee cap 6 -8 weeks in wheelchair recovering from fusion #2 and broken leg Skip ahead 6 months of phys therapy etc to October 2011 fusion #3 with rods and screws in low back December 2011 low back surg to remove lipoma Present day May 2012 - still unexplainable and excruciating pain and radiating leg pain- 2nd opinions had- year and half of torment and torture- daily hell!! Not one say of relief despite oxycodone, fentinyl 50 pain patch, baclofin muscle relaxers (and I've tried em all: lortab, Percocet, morphine, etc) MRI now shows hardware (rods/screws) must come out in low back. I also have a large spur and bulge at T11-12 and T6-7 is a large disk bulge... June 5th I am scheduled for 5th back surgery since Feb 2011 (16 months) All of that said (in shortest possible way) to say this: 2nd opinion surgeon says he has seen MANY complaints of unexplainable back pain after WLS.. He has no answers, reasons, etc... Also says I should never have had 1st surg because now they will never end........ I can't tell u that I wouldn't have had this happen if I didn't have WLS.... I CAN tell you that my husband had hard enough time when I had the back fusion recovery AND broke leg and knee helping w bed pans, dressing, bathing, LIFTING me into bed and car, etc with me weighing 240lb... Could u imagine him having to do this at 399?!?! So the weightloss HAS benefited... Very curious about any other back pain/surgeries after WLS... Anyone else with this?!
  4. Drink AT HOME 1st time- it hits u so fast n hard!!!! And be so careful of addiction.
  5. I have something to add.. I am almost 3 yrs out.. Lost 175 lb forever!! This surgery gave me a life!! I love my decision!! Yep- here's the big ole BUT! BUT... Could u imagine him having to do this at 399?!?! So the weightloss HAS benefited... Very curious about any other back pain/surgeries after WLS... Hard to say if this is a 'thing I wish I'd known' since not sure WLS contributed negatively to this hell. .. But I still LOVE results .. And despite lack of ability to function and work out, I've managed to stay within 2 lb up and down of a steady weight... I'd like to get under 200 but I have to workout :-( maybe next yr...
  6. Peeps like u are what made me decide to do this ... And post my 'undies' pix... I felt like it was 'paying it fwd' .. U are looking GREAT! Keep it up!!
  7. I am 2yrs post op.. And down 165lbs.. I have become happier, more outgoing and lots more laughs... I play with my kids, fish/boat with hubby, etc.. I'm not a fat, miserable blob glued to couch with bag of potato chips and remote... Changed? Yes... For the GREAT!!!!!
  8. Me and my son (he is 11 but is 5'8'' and 213lbs) both in my pre surgery outfit that was tight - shirt is 5x and pants 30 stretched to capacity when I wore LOL this was too cool!
  9. my new tat and my 2 best friends matching tats
  10. I thought I was doing good by taking BC Powders right after surgery because it didnt require me to swallow a pill - thanks to this forum, I now know this is NOT what I should do... However, recently I have taken a few in between pain med doses. I had a 2 lvl back fusion 2/17/11 ... it didnt take so they refused me on 3/14/11 ... I have just gotten to where I could go to work part time (against doctors advice) last week... Saturday I stepped of my carport and broke my leg (tibula and fibula at the bottom of the knee - waiting on CAT scan results to see if this will require surgery)... anyway... the reason for that brief history is that i was prescribed a medication by one of the many doctors I have seen (sadly, none of them are familiar with the gastric bypass medicine do/donts)... the medication is VIMOVO (Naproxen and esomeprozole magneslum) 500mg/20mg - When I looked it up online it was described as a nsaid type medication that was formulated for patients who have ulcers or other stomach issues... What are your thoughts on Gastric Bypass patients taking VIMOVO? Thanks!
  11. Would I do it again? IN A HEARTBEAT!! I have almost lost 170 lbs - and I have never, ever been happier
  12. Thank you all! These are the pics that helped me- so I was hoping they would help others... And your right.. I have lost 1/2 of me- literally.. I started insize 32 and am now 16... This morning I weighed 238 and started at 398.. I had back surgery a week ago so I have not been able to work out since November when the back pain started ... That's one reason I did the new pics, I needed to see the progress since I was stalling... Now I can't wait to heal so I can shed even more!! My ins co will pay for a full body lift after WLS if a doc says it's necessary - I am hoping next year to have that done! I will post many pics of that process- I'm as excited as I am scared about that! Lol Thank u all again- this forum has truly been a life saver and inspiration to me!
  13. I dont have time to read all of the replies yet, however, I will after a while - with that said, I may be repeating what others have said... Alot of spouses have this concern - I know mine did. I'm not sure if it is a true concern with the procedure or if it is an insecurity thing on their side (they may not even realize this)... Mine got into researching with me - looking at before/after pics with me - reading this forum (which has alot of posts about hubbys and wives)... etc... Now that i am down 165 lbs he sees what this surgery was to me - a new life.. for US... our whole family..for the GOOD... not bad. Im not saying you wont have to figure out some things together (such as eating out)...but it will become 2nd nature before you know it!
  14. Sugary went well- I'm 12 hrs out Amd so thankful I don't have to send them on search for special wheelchairs ... Or be humiliated as we attempt a bed Pan, etc
