      David doesn’t get here much...I guess I don’t either these days. He is doing very well...down to 194 pounds now. He’s allowed to advance to all foods now, so he’s starting to try new things. He has trouble with fish (I still do too, after 2.5 years, lol) but lunchmeat seems to go down well for him. He did tender baked pork loin ribeye last night, and he was able to eat I think 1.5 ounces of that. He’s thoroughly sick of tuna, probably because his diet consisted mainly of tuna salad in the soft food phase. He’s not a huge fan of yogurt, so he’s only eaten that a couple of times. And he doesn’t like cottage cheese, so he was pretty limited for a while. He’s not a breakfast person, so he still drinks a protein shake every day for breakfast. He does eat an egg occasionally, but it has to be scrambled because he can’t tolerate hard boiled. He’s in a size 35-36 jeans now...he had been wearing 42’s prior to surgery. He’s just melting away in front of me, and it’s weird being on the other side of this watching your spouse lose weight so fast. I can kind of see why some of our SO’s worry when we lose so fast. But I know he’s healthy and it will just take some getting used to for both of us, lol.

      Its officially in his record that he no longer needs high blood pressure meds, and from what I can tell his sleep apnea is gone as well! So he is really doing great with this so far ❤️

      I’m just me...same old, same old, lol. Maintaining, and for once I’m not having any major complications of any kind! I haven’t been a guest of the hospital since June, with the exception of my colonoscopy in September, which showed no urgent need for bowel resection/colectomy :) I also went for my mammo finally, and that came beck all good. Gotta go to Albany for a second opinion on the MS stuff, but I’ll post on that another time.

      So glad to hear he is doing so well.  Glad to know you are doing well and having no issues.  I am okay other then needing a EGD done to see how my erosive esophagitis is doing.  To be honest I don't think the up on the PPI is working as I am still having bouts of pain.  I don't have regrets though.

  2. Thank you! @Res Ipsa, I was just telling @Nana Trish last night how it’s horrible to know the answers to your concerns and when the uncertainty creeps in logic goes out the window. So while I’m sitting on my front porch watching a couple of stray kittens eat some kitty food on my front step (we can’t let them go hungry) I’m reading your post and your words are a comfort. Thank you for taking the time and care to reply to my post. Today was the beginning of week five and as I thought, not yet in onederland. Trish and I are getting a ton of landscaping work done now that the rain has stopped and I’ve barely thought about food today :-/ so I take the good with the not so good. Reading others reassurances is a great help and I should even be posting some photos soon. Have great night!
  3. 200.4 lbs. this morning! I feel close to 199, but I’m not necessarily getting my hopes up too much for tomorrow morning since the weight loss comes every couple of days it seems. I’m currently at the lowest weight that I’ve been in 25 years though so hallelujah to that! I’m missing my favorite foods something fierce sometimes but I try and remember why I did this. If I hadn’t I would be back up around 260 already by now. As I’ve said before, I want to be alive to enjoy the rest of my life with @Nana Trish. She does her best to keep me on the straight and narrow and she does a wonderful job. The body dysmorphia is real and seeing my weight loss in the mirror is a little scary sometimes. Not knowing what you will look like in another 25 to 30 lbs is a bit nerve wracking. Not wanting to get scrawny and lose too much muscle mass is also a point of stress. How do keep from losing too much weight when you can’t even eat normal foods yet. I got a big head start on my diet before the surgery and I only had another 40 or so lbs. left to lose. Of those I’ve lost 20 so far and 15 more to my initial goal of 185. Now I’m thinking I may have to reconsider my goal. I start week 5 post op tomorrow which introduce a few new foods and I’m thinking the weight loss may slow down a little which is good and not so good at the same time. If anyone wants to share their experiences with these same concerns (fears) please comment. I look forward to reading your thoughts. Have a great day!
  4. Hi everyone, So I’m 2 1/2 weeks out from surgery and the rapid weight loss continues. I was 221.8 lbs. the morning of surgery and this morning I weighed in at 206.2 lbs. for a grand total of 66.6 pounds including pre-op diet. I had my first major incident of food getting stuck yesterday with about 2 tablespoons of tuna salad. That took about 2 hours to resolve itself and I’m feeling more of a restriction since then that I hadn’t felt before. So I’m back to softer foods for a day or two. @Nana Trishassured me that this is perfectly normal. Honestly if it wasn’t for her I would probably worry a lot more about it since I was eating more with no problem the last few days. Other than that The only problem I have is extremely sensitive (painful) skin on my stomach which apparently is caused from nerve damage from the surgery. I’m told it will take some time to get better. Did anyone else experience this? If so, how long did it take to get better?

  6. Honestly I’m doing great other than the gas pains in my shoulder blades, I’m drinking all of my liquids as planned and no food cravings! Although food still sounds good, I’m not crawling out of my skin because I can’t have it right now.
  7. Oh you’re hitting my sweet spot. You had me at fried chicken. Lucky for me I’m not hungry in the slightest.
  8. Hi everyone, First, I want to thank you all for the support you’ve given me. It’s been about 48 hours since surgery, and I’m now doing very well. Most of the last two days seems a little like a dream. Which is a small blessing in itself. The day of surgery and half of the next day were spent battling pretty severe gas pains and occasional nausea. Once those subsided, there really wasn’t any pain or discomfort I couldn’t easily tolerate. It was hard to keep up on the water just from being tired more than anything. Now two days out (already) and I’m feeling fairly normal, no pain, drank my protein shake and sipping on crystal light. I really don’t like water. It’s almost like nothing ever happened except the slightly tender incisions. I’m not going to say I didn’t wake up from surgery wondering why I thought this was a good idea and panicking about the loss of food forever! (This is permanent, what was I thinking?!) But those feeling passed (along with the gas), and I was able to come to grips with the help of @Nana Trish, my beautiful wife who gently reminded me of the reasons I did this. Food is not gone forever and and I will be alive to enjoy it, just in reasonable portion sizes. Thus begins my journey to my ideal weight, and a long, happy and healthy life with the woman I owe so much and for whom I would do anything to be with.
  9. Thank you everyone for the warm welcome. It’s been 42 hours since I’ve had any solid food and I’m more than halfway through day 2 of my clear liquids. All food looks incredible right now but staying the course. Tingly and grumbly is the menu for the day. Looking forward to Wednesday morning and I believe I’m the first on the list. Fingers crossed!

  11. Hi everybody, I finally have a chance to get on the forum, I want to thank everyone for all the support you have given me through my beautiful wife @Nana Trish! I’m about to start my 3 day clear liquids diet Sunday morning and the anxiety grows. I have been doing fairly well and I’ve lost just over 50 lbs. on my 6 month pre-op diet. I wouldn’t have been able to do it if not for my wife. She is my rock and my conscience. I want to give her a huge thank you for everything she has done for me and everything she has yet to do. I look forward to being with all of you on this new journey I’m embarking on. I know from Nana Trish that you are a great group of people. I’ll be talking to you all soon!
