  1. Congratulations on your hard work!
  2. Thanks for the insight everyone! I'm going to be open about it. People have the right to disagree but I'm not going to allow the fear of what people think or say about me, control me. This is not about them... I'm doing this for me and as a result my family and friends will be blessed with a healthier mom/daughter/sister/aunt and friend. I know there will be people who don't understand why I'm choosing surgery. Hopefully an open conversation if they want will be helpful. People don't know what they don't know. I do understand regardless of all that, people may still choose to hate. I'm a tough girl and I am choosing love.
  3. Hey everyone! I just had my initial consult the the surgeon and I have all my other mandatory appointments scheduled. My last psych apt is Jan 16 so if everything goes well and ins approves I guess surgery would be in the early new year. So with all that said, when do you think it's best to tell family and friends? Obviously, I dont have a surgery date yet but if I wait till I'm approved it may not be much notice. (I'd like to have it done asap) Anyway, just trying to glean some wisdom from those who've gone before me and from those who have some hindsight.
  4. Thanks so for the encouragement! The initial consult went well. Thankfully my hubs came with me. I like the surgeon and staff that I met. I'm so happy to know the hospital has the Center of Excellence accreditation. The last of my psych eval appointment is 1/16/17. So I imagine if all goes well and ins approves, surgery may be in the early new year.
  5. Thanks all! I can see what a great resource this forum is for people going on this journey.
  6. I have BCBSNC and my navigator told me I meet the requirements. I understand however, this doesn't mean I'll be approved for surgery. My bmi is 50 but I have no comorbidities (that I know of). My consult is 9/23 so I'm in the very beginning process. I'm just curious to see if any others have been in the same situation and what your outcome has been? Thanks for the help!
  7. Hi there! I'm new to the forum. I meet the criteria for my insurance and I have my initial consult with the surgeon on 9/23. I'm excited about the possibility of using this tool to aid me in having a healthier lifestyle. I understand that this isn't going to be an easy fix. I've been doing lots of reading on my different options. If the surgeon agrees, I'm praying to have the RNY.
