  1. I did a lot of research and found the bypass to have the higher percentage of the most weight loss. That was me deciding factor. I looked at the percentages for each of the types of surgery and I even told my doctor I wanted the biggest result and that was why I chose bypass, he agreed with me and that was that. Do you have any worries about the procedure? If so ask your surgeon about them. I was a surgical tech and had seen the OR side of the surgery so none of that bothered me at all. After going to all of the nutrition classes and reading more into the surgeries I was very confident with my decision. No question is too dumb, I'm sure they have heard it all before. Good luck.
  2. I had the bypass and don't regret it. I have never had the dumping syndrome and my only major issue is that I have major Gerd now. I take nexium twice a day... I did not have it before surgery. Everyone is different and everyBody is different do your research and ask your surgeon lots of questions, he and you will do what is right for you. Good luck!
  3. Was your weight loss slower? What do you think you did differently that kept you losing the weight? I'm asking because I have not exercised much do to a sprained knee a few months ago and do to the pain in all of my joints. I dot feel like I am losing as fast as I should be....I am a little over 5 MO the out and have lost 60 pounds. I have had numerous stalls too...it's kind of depressing.
  4. Have you tried the egg beaters? (Fake eggs) I can't eat regular eggs, I get that severe pain in my stomach as well, egg beaters seem to work and sit very well for me. Lots and lots of bean dishes are good too such as chilli, taco soup, hamburger and beans, beans, beans and beans. Lol. I could not tolerate the protein shakes or powders so I have to improvise. I definitely have not gotten the amounts of protein in each day that I am supposed to be getting. I was worried but my labs all looked great and my surgeon told me to keep doing what I'm doing. Everyone is different, and we all tolerate different things. Talk to your surgeon And your nutritionist and get your labs done, maybe you don't need all of that protein like me. Good luck.
  5. You may not be getting enough carbs in your diet. Because of some of the things said on thinner times posts I was freaked out about "too many carbs" but I was feeling so, so tired all of the time, when I saw my nutritionist she told me that what I had read or been told was way too few and that I needed to up my carbs to help with my energy levels. And it worked. Definitely talk to your nut. And keep a diary for a few days to a week so you can keep track of what you are consuming. Good luck and I hope you find your answers.
  6. I need to get a full length mirror. Yes, the jeans s are very flattering. Thank you!
  7. I am wearing "Amanda skimmer stretch capris" SIZE 14 (down from a 22) and an XL (down from a 3x) "stylus essential tee" all from Jcpenney. And I got my hair colored on Wedesday. These are the first clothes I have bought since my surgery on Dec. 9 2015. I felt so incredible and motivated after I realized I fit in to a 14. I love it! I still have more to go though.
  8. I am so sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with your family and especially her kids.
  9. The pain from eating that one bite too much has me thinking that if I could throw it up, I wouldn't have the pain anymore. I don't wish to throw up just wish the pain would go away.
  10. I'm a surgical tech so I have seen this and more before. Not gross to me at all. I find it very interesting and can't wait for mine. When I had my hysterectomy I asked to be awake so I could watch and they let me, they put a mirror above the table so I could see everything...it was AWESOME!
  11. I am 4 months post op and have never thrown up nor have I dry heaved. There have been a few times where I wished I could just throw up and get it over with, that was do to taking one more bite than I should have. I am so glad I have not thrown up.
  12. Jesse, My advice would be don't compare yourself with anyone else on here, we are all different and our body's will react different, some will lose faster than others. Do not go out and buy tons of shakes and viamins, your tastes will change after surgerey, he knows they will change again a few weeks after surgery. The whole process is trial and error. I cannot drink any type of protein shake or even use any type of protein powder they make me gag. So I just try to eat my protein and I have found some really good protein bars and snacks that work for me. My surgeon is very happy with all my lab work and told me not to change a thing. He did switch me from prilosec to nexium and I can tell a huge difference already. Make sure you keep drinking, hot, warm, or cold it doesn't matter just keep drinking. Keep your carbs down and your proteins high. It's life changing but the changes are awesome. Good luck with your surgery and I'm here for you if you ever need anything.
  13. I had the same problem with my chewables right after surgery, it took me a while to find something that didn't make me gag. But this is what I am taking now and all of my levels are in the mid range or higher. Flintstones complete multivitamin 2 X a day, Citracal +D3 2 X a day, Nature's Bounty hair skin and nails with biotin 2 X a day and Nature's Bounty sublingual B 12 1 X a day. My surgeon is very happy with my levels and I bought all of these at Walgreens, they were buy 1 get 1 free or half off. I hope you find something that works.
  14. I just had my labs and saw my Surgeon for my 3 month checkup. All of my labs were perfect except the B 12 and that one was high. I take the Flintstones chewables 2 X a day, nature's bounty sublingual B 12 1 X a day, nature's bounty hair skin and nails with biotin 1 X a day and Citracal 2 X a day. I got all of these at Walgreens buy 1 get one free or half off. They work and are keeping my levels where they are supposed to be and I'm not spending a fortune on vitamins. My surgeon is very happy with my results and told me not to change a thing. So if you don't have the money to spend on the Bariatric vitamins just note that there are other options that are about half the price and you don't have to pay for shipping. Good luck!
  15. Thank you for the great advice about the carbs, I wasn't sure how much I should be getting a day, I will definitely stop the cereal. And I have been keeping track of calories I get between 600-900 a day. I just wasn't keeping track of carbs, I have been so focused on trying to get my protein in, the fluids aren't a problem it's the protein that is causing issues.
