  1. Hi Sally, You are going to LOVE the results of your surgery!!!.. try to stay focused on your needs and desires to be healthier. I had a gastric bypass procedure on 11/3/2015 and have yet to regret my decision!!! I started out at 240 pounds on my first pre-op visit, and am 5 ft. 3.5 inches tall. 22 months post-op, and I have successfully kept off 100 pounds to date!!!! Please stay focused on your Weight Loss journey as it is a very intense, yet deeply rewarding struggle that you WILL get through! I have been to the beach more times in the last 2 years than in my entire life!!! I feel comfortable taking the coveted full body pictures that terrified me prior to having WLS! Please be optimistic that this procedure WILL go smoothly, and that you will fall in love with yourself all over again once the results start showing. As far as the procedure itself, I was pleasantly surprised to wake up post-op only to have my most annoying symptom be - GAS (from the Carbon dioxide that they blow your stomach up with so that the surgical team can see through the laparoscopic process!!!! The incision pain I could not feel until 2 days later, and was provided with adequate pain relief during this time. I quickly adjusted to self-administering the post-op blood thinners via an injection in my tummy. I did not even notice when the catheter was removed!!! I was relieved to wake up and realize that pain was not an issue, just some discomfort from bloating and gas! I had non-supporters and supporters alike in my camp pre-op and now all I do is relish in the compliments on my physical appearance. The only side effect that I have from the procedure is that I cannot absorb iron taken orally, and have to have iron injections monthly. But that's a VERY small price to pay for losing 100 pounds in less than 15 months with this miracle procedure! You will be FINE tomorrow, Sally! Wishing you much success in your weight loss journey!
  2. I have struggled with my weight for most of all my life! Finally, at age 38, I made the decision to have gastric bypass surgery. My surgery was performed on November 3, 2015 and to date (February 4, 2016), I have lost 58 pounds in less than 4 months!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am VERY happy with these results! On the positive side, I have been able to walk down two flights of stairs WITHOUT the support of the stair railing; I have been able to walk at a brisk pace without sweating profusely or getting tired; and finally I feel EXCITED for summer as I am comfortable wearing a bathing suit for the first time in four years!!! On the flip side however, the lost weight has NOT been without its costs. I have several vitamin and nutrient deficiencies including Vitamin B-12, Vitamin D-3, Iron, and Calcium. I am overall happy with the decision, but am feeling VERY concerned about my overall health as I do not often eat even the minimum required amount of food post-operatively...
  3. Hi, my name is Jayme and I am having gastric bypass surgery and everything about it scares me! At first I was just excited at the prospect of being thin, but now as the date approaches I am full of uncertainty and worry and anxiety! I am scared of having the catheter removed - can someone tell me if that is as bad as it seems. I am scared of having too much pain. I am scared of the anti blood clot injections I have to give myself. I am scared that I will have complications like a hernia, gallstones, wound infection etc. I am just scared to death but I do want to be healthy! Please someone calm my knerves and provide some encouraging advice! Thanks!
