  1. I read about this procedure today and thought I'd share the information in case it's new to others as well. (I am not an M.D. and I'm not recommending this procedure to anyone.) ---------------------------------------------------------------- [This is about the Mayo Clinic Bariatric Center in Florida] The Bariatric Center in Florida also offers another endoscopic procedure, known as gastric outlet reduction, for some people who have had successful gastric bypass surgery but start to regain weight a year or more later. Gastric outlet reduction reduces the size of the opening between the stomach and small intestine. Mayo Clinic researchers have demonstrated that in some cases, over-dilation of this opening is responsible for weight regain after gastric bypass surgery. Source: Abu Dayyeh BK, et al. Gastrojejunal stoma diameter predicts weight regain after Roux-en-Y gastric bypass. Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology. 2011;9:228.
  2. I'm so sorry that your insurance policy denied coverage for the procedure(s). I understand the difficulties of trying to be at peace with our bodies after going through rapid (sometimes massive) weight loss. It's like a daily reminder of what I allowed myself to become, and that's not a good feeling. I don't have the funds right now (and maybe I never will) to pay for plastic surgery, and even if I did I'd have to try to figure out which area needs it most. Sigh. In the meantime I might try to focus more on the benefits of my weight loss (and there are many). Wishing you the best in whatever direction you take!
  3. Yesterday I had an outpatient procedure that involved having me sit in a wheelchair as I was taken to and from the radiology dept. I am very aware of being 5'10" and a few pounds shy of my goal weight (175 lbs.). The radiologist was of average height (several inches shorter than I am) and weight and pushed me in the chair, poor man. I feel uncomfortable being pushed in a wheelchair: I wasn't sick, for Pete's sake! When I was ready to be discharged, the nurse asked if I wanted to walk to the lobby or if I preferred a wheelchair. I said I would walk, and I mentioned that I felt embarrassed being pushed in a chair. She asked me why I felt that way, and I said I'm not a small person. She said I'm not a big person. I'm not a big person? What an odd thought! I'll have to work my head around that idea: might take time and effort, but it's probably a good idea to get started
  4. I think anyone who posts full-body before photos is incredibly brave. I haven't even done that with after photos 9 months out. Thank you for sharing your courage AND your success!

    Awesome goal

I came across something about goals and wanted to share this: improved quality of life so I can spend more time making memories with those I care about. I love it!

I've gone to a group called "Images" at Unity Hospital in Fridley since March of this year. They meet the first Thursday of each month from 6 to 8 pm; the group has both pre-op and post-op people and is led by a facilitator who makes it fun to be there. I'll add the Allina URL below in case you'd like to look at information about other groups/times as well. Here's information about the Thursday pm group: No Registration is RequiredThursday, November 05, 2015From: 6:00 PM - 8:00 PMLocation: Unity HospitalAddress: 550 Osborne Road, Boardroom, lower level, Fridley, MN 55432
  9. Here's the link. The article was in the Wall Street Journal, of all places!
  10. Awesome! Thanks for posting the photos. You're an inspiration
  11. Thanks, Jolls. I can click on yours and get to the ticker update page, but mine doesn't give me that option (I don't get the little hand). Very strange.
  12. Haven't quite figured out the new system yet: how do I update the weight loss ticker? I'm currently using ticker factory and was able to update it until now. Thanks!
  13. Beautifully written, DorkyCool. I have no doubt that you'll succeed!
  14. Welcome, Meme! Julie, would you notify me the next time a meeting is planned, please? Thank you! -Alison
