    Pregnant when had surgery

I've been having a LOT of trouble breastfeeding this little guy. He's doinghis part perfectly. He latches on beautifully and has from day one. My milk just isnt coming in well at all. We were nursing ever 2-3 hrs the first week, sometimes more often than that. He would nurse for anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes on each side, all seemed to be fine. Then we went to the doc and she didnt think his weight seemed to be where it should. It was our first visit with her so she wasnt positive, and he was above his birth weight, just not by as much as she thought he should have been. She had us come back a week later for another weigh. He was actually down at that point by 2 ounces. Not only had he not gained the ounce a day but he had lost. She had me start pumping at that point. I was to feed him every 2-3 hours and make sure he got at least 3 ounces every time even if I had to add formula to the breast milk. Well I had to add every time just about. When we went back he had gained a ton of weight. So at this point we are pumping, feeding, and formula. Since I had this last surgery for my appendix things have got much worse, Im often lucky to get .5 to 1 oz out of each side pumping. Ive been trying all the normal remedies, pumping more often to build up the supply, drinking tons of water, eating good. I called my doc to see about getting those pills that are supposed to increase your milk flow but he's uncomfortable giving them to me, says too many side effects. At this point Im having a real hard time with this. I know Im doing the best I can and my body has been through a lot this last year but its hard to admit to myself that i may have to give up and formula feed him. Im harder on myself than others cause i have no problem with other people who formula feed. It just isnt what i want for my baby. Ive been feeding and pumping as much as i can figuring any is better than none, but emotionally notdoing so good with it at all. I miss the bonding of the feeding.

    Pregnant when had surgery

Well just when we were getting adjusted to having a baby life threw us a curve ball. I had finally begun to be able to eat somewhat normally. For the first time in 9 months I wasnt questioning my surgery. (had been to that point because I had been so sick the whole pregnancy, unable to eat almost anything without being sick) Wednesday I had what I thought was bad gas pains starting about noon. By 5 or 6 pm they were much worse, by 7 they were very localized on the right side, uh oh. I also discovered I was running a fever and began to feel sick to my stomach. After looking up the symptoms for an appendicitis and realizing I had all of them, I layed in bed for another couple of hours in denial. After all I had been through in the last 10 months or so I could not believe I was looking at another hospital stay and surgery. I was also trying to wait for my husband to get home from school. Finally about 8pm I txt'd him and told him I thought I had an appendicitis and needed to go to the er. so he came home and we went and sure enough so more surgery for me. All is well now. At least I wont have to go through this again! now I just need to get healed up so I can pick up and care for my baby again!

Well Mr. Ian Robert was born Jan 15th. I had developed cholestasis and the doc decided that induction was a must. My due date wasn't til Jan. 29 but he said the risk was not worth waiting til then. We went in at 8am on the 15th. After about 8 hours of labor and no epidural, he was born at 5:57pm. Ian is perfectly healthy. He weighed 7lbs 13 oz and was 20.5 inches. He is a perfectly healthy and a wonderful little boy. I never knew there could be so much love for one little person.

Yes I do plan to breastfeed as long as Im able. I too have heard that it helps with weight loss. Should be interesting to see if I end the pregnancy by gaining any at all, so far havent but since Ive held steady these last couple weeks I could see going up a little the last few and hey thats fine, whatever makes my little guy healthy! I noticed who you had listed as your surgeon, kinda cool I used to be obsessed with their show when it came on!

I think it will be interesting to see what my weight loss is like after I have the baby. Also what my body will look like. It is already interesting to see the changes despite a baby belly. My husband and I were looking at my before pictures the other night and the weight loss in my back is amazing, I dont have rolls anymore! he also can feel a waist on me, well from the side anyway! Even with a big ol baby belly Im still in reg blue jeans that are 2-3 sizes smaller than I started out in. Im sure thats why I get so many "you don't look pregnant" comments. To people who see me everyday yes my stomach probably isnt any bigger and maybe even smaller, than it was 8-10 months ago. To me and my husband I can see the changes in my body more intimently and see how much the belly has grown

thanks for all the well wishes. Yes this is my first baby, and the first grandbaby on my side at all. Can you say spoiled already? I think these next 8 weeks are not going to go as fast as the last months have. Really starting to hit the uncomfortable stage. Hah and losing my sense of humor if I hear one person tell me that if I think its bad now just wait.....oy I might lose it on them. Or one more person who tells me that I don't even look pregnant. Who says that to an 8 month pregnant woman? That one I kind of understand though. I've lost over 40 lbs since getting pregnant. While to me and my husband it is very obvious the changes in my body I can see how it might not be as obvious to others. I am at a stage where none of my clothes fit right, even the maternity ones. They are all either too small or too big. Thanks for the compliments on the name Ian. I wanted something that wasnt too common, or so unusual that nobody knows what it is, or something too trendy. When I was in first grade there were 6 Heather's in my class. I think Ian fits those criteria pretty well.

my due date is Jan 29th.......I wouldnt be suprised if it ends up being early though. So far I have lost and not gained any. Im currently going to the doc every week. last couple visits my scale weight has been the same. Since little guy is growing that means I must be losing in order to remain the same. We are 99% sure on the name Ian Robert. Robert is after my husband's father who died when my husband was 5. Ian is just a name I heard one day and liked.

Well I haven't updated here in a really long time. So far everything seems to be going well. I am having a lot or trouble with getting sick, but I think I'm still getting enough food and nutrition. Im 32 weeks at this point. My last ultrasound was a couple weeks ago and according to that our little boy was actually on the big side. It is estimated that he will be about 8.5lbs at birth. I just wanted to update on our unexpected but most anticipated little guy.

it certainly has been wonderful reading everybody's comments, and support. I thank you for them. I am right now about 17 weeks along. I have found a wonderful doctor, after a couple not so wonderful ones. He feels everything should be fine. Said that the effects of the actual surgical procedure tend to be an all or nothing deal and since there's still a little one it will most likely be the nothing. I have been having a horrible time eating, but Im trying not to stress too much over it and eat what i can when I can. I figure there are other women out there who never had the surgery but have morning sickness much much worse than mine and still have healthy babies. Plus I have all these extra pounds to pull from ;-) Anyway right now I'm just enjoying getting baby stuff and looking forward to hopefully finding out what sex this little critter is thank you all again for all the support its meant the world to me!!! -H

I do plan to find out what Im having. my doc said they usually do an ultrasound to find out around 20 weeks. I'm hoping since Im having them much more often than that, two already! that the little critter will agree to show a little sooner though hey a girl can hope! The first ultrasound put me due Jan 29 the second Jan 24th, so somewhere around there.

Well trust me, they have reminded me every corner I turned that no test is 100% accurate. Unfortunately they are right and thats why a lawsuite wouldnt work. I would also have to prove that harm was done to me or the baby, and until the baby is born I won't know about that. My gut feeling based on the statistics I've read about a blood pregnancy test is that they did not do it, somehow the ball got dropped. I have no way of proving that though. I did lookup to see how accurate that test is supposed to be and it says about 97% so they would just claim I fell in the 3%

    Pregnant when had surgery

Well I went to see my surgeon last Friday. That was a total waste of time. Only thing it accomplished was raising my and my mom's blood pressure (she went with me) My doc would not get the idea that I WAS pregnant at the time of surgery into his head. Even after telling him yet again that I had had an ultrasound the Tues. before that put me at just under 9 weeks he actually had the nerve to say he would have to question the accuracy of that ultrasound. He must have said at least three times that there was no way I was pregnant at time of surgery. I finally looked at him and said "Well between my surgery date and the time of the ultrasound we hadnt had sex so I guess this is a miracle baby then if I wasn't pregnant at surgery?" that shut him up. The only good thing that came out of that appt was that he told me not to take the Vit. D or b12 or my urso. THose are all considered class C which can potentially be harmful to the baby. He wanted me to come back to him every month, but that will not be happening. I have a high risk ob, I have my reg doc who is amazing. I see no reason to drive an hour to go visit somebody who does not help me out at all. I had my first ob appt this Tues. They did another ultrasound then and this time my husband was with me and got to see/hear We discussed some of the issues and she felt like at this point the risk of miscarriage caused by the anathesia was gone. I will have very frequent visits and ultrasounds to monitor the growth of the baby. I have another visit next Tuesday to get some more tests done, some sort of ekg, not clear on that, and blood work. I also have an appt with the dietician that day. I think this is going to be a really busy 7 more months!
