  1. Earlier in my recovery I would wonder the same things. As I'm eating yogurt and cottage cheese. I have even wanted toast and had toast a couple times after two or three months. it was hard as a result I don't eat bread or buy it. No big deal, the only bread I do have is a piece of pizza every once in awhile. Why deprive yourself of something you like. I am not saying right after surgery either, but 5 or 6 months down the road. Yes one piece is all I want. Where as before I would eat 4 slices. As long as a person gets good habits in beginning and sticks to them. The 5 or 10 percent of the time you do have something not so good is no big deal. heck I deliver Little Debbie products all day long to supermarkets and convenience stores. I could be eating honey buns and swiss rolls all day but I don't. I have been doing this job for almost a year and lost a ton of weight doing it. I take my own food with me and have that. Just yesterday I took a salad with me, it had spring mix, avocado, nuts, egg, apples, raisins, dried cranberries. I would rather eat that then devil dogs, oh ya I also have Drakes on my truck. Point is it doesn't have to be a slippery slope. A person can have pizza once in awhile as long as your food choices are good. I think of my pouch as valuable real estate and I cant afford to fill it up with junk. You have limited space, so you make the most of that space for nutrition.
  2. yesterday was my one year. things to do when am thinner. bought a new jean jacket and rode a bike for the first time in a long time.
  3. I am close also. another 30 for me. hang in there. we are a tough bunch.
  4. I drive a truck full of little Debbie snacks everyday and deliver to stores, it is my job. I see all the crap people buy. It astounds me and they are all big. This job has also been a work out and helped me to lose 128lbs. I also deliver to Walmart. I have a big space on the wall of shelves and a four way hutch that I cram full of Drakes, donuts, springtime snacks and everything sells. I figure all the big people that want to eat this crap are keeping me in a job and much fitter. I bought a pedometer, during the course of my day and doing my job, I walk 4 or 5 miles a day in addition to the bending, stooping, lifting, loading truck. throwing cases around, loading shelves, jumping in and out of truck, it is a major workout and I do it for 10 to 12 hrs a day.
  5. before surgery wouldn't see me eating raw onions, after was putting it on salads. quit because someone complained. I now like avacados with an egg or in a salad or in anything.
  6. I also drink a lot of tea. since it is cold and I work outside prob about 5 or 6 cups a day. a mix of caffeine and decaf. hard to wanna drink water when you are working in 20 degree weather.
  7. cold is a challenge for me also. I work outside all day so the last thing I want to drink is water. I take a thermos of tea and that helps. I do manage to drink water while I'm out. I am really physically active outside so that helps with keeping warm. I also have 10 or11 hr days out there. good workout.
  8. hi Kimmie, Dr. Pohl is really good and my time at roger Williams was good as far as staff helping all the time. I hate being in hosp but they were great and everyone knows exactly what they are doing. having said that. ya man the surgery sucks as far as you feel like #$%& after and the days going home. You will also say what the $%&8 did I do to myself. That will pass after about 2 wks. When you are in hosp walk the halls as much as you can after to get rid of air in your gut it will help relieve pressure and discomfort and when you get home walk, even if it a 4 min walk 3 times a day. That is also what you can do now. Because the stronger you are going in the easier it will be. Nothing about this is easy. It is damn hard but we are doing it for better health and prolonging our lives. You can do it.
  9. I order them from website Diet Direct. needed alternative from shakes and hard boiled eggs all the time. Just got an order the other day.
  10. I ate stuff I don't normally eat either. It is ok. Now I am having a protein shake and going to gym.
  11. I used to be a bread addict. Now I don't care about it. Funny how that works. don't really miss it either. I figured it has no value for me and takes up valuable real estate. I do have a piece of pizza once in awhile and even then I think about it because it is so hard to work off.
  12. mine also started about 3 months after. I do everything I can to stop it or slow it down. I use Toppik. Fantastic stuff.
  13. I used to love toast, all breads. I am talking organic, not that crappy white wonder bread. I have lost the urge for it. It is ok, I can live without bread.
