  1. I haven't been on here in a long time, though I do wander in to read occassionally. It has been a fantastic year, I have lost 112lbs since surgery and feel wonderful. I had a great trip to Israel/Jordan in March which I would have had a hard time doing a year ago. I still have some weight to lose but I try to follow the rules and stay busy. My bloodwork is great. I also can eat pretty much anything but do not push the line in that direction. I get a hotflash if I eat to much sugar or simple carbs, not much of a deterant(sp) esp. at my age! Hope to hear from others that are a year out, looking forward to another healthy year.
  2. I went to Israel in March and we were gone for three weeks. I took a ziplock bag of protein powder and a cup to mix it in. Usually I made it up the night before and put it in the little refrig in our room. That worked well for me. But I noticed that Syntrax Nectar also has individual protein packs called grab and go, which also would work well. The idea of the bullet or an immersion blender is good also.
  3. Hey, I am about 160 miles south on the Kenai Peninsula. Right now I don't have plans for an Anchorage trip but who knows.
  4. Congrats on your surgery! I haven't been on here in quite a while and since I live down the road from you near Soldotna I am curious to know who did your surgery and would you recomend him/her. Hope you have an uneventful recovery.
  5. I think it is fairly common to have those thoughts before surgery. I did some but I knew this is what I needed to do. It helped me that the 3 weeks before surgery I was traveling. Alaska to NY and CT, then NV and finally surgery in San Diego. I ate what I wanted and still lost 10 lbs before surg. I think all the walking we did was good also. My recovery went smooth and I don't feel like I had any "hell week". I know everyone is different. The loss of food hasn't been an issue yet at just over 2 months out. I think that the negative reinforcement from eating to fast or not chewing well has helped there also. Hope this helps a little.
  6. Hi Katie, Welcome to the forum. This site has been very helpful to me also. Good for info and smiles, alright downright ROTFL. Very good for recovery. I love Bend, I grew up around Salem and used to go camping in central OR. I had to choose between moving to Bend or Alaska (many years ago) and chose AK. cheryl
  7. Hi Izan, Thanks for the friendship invite, I hope I added you right. I am a bit of a technology dyslexic, I would have a picture in my sig if I could figure it out. Oh well, hope every thing is going well for you! cheryl

  8. looking forward to the day....just hope it happens at home not in public!
  9. Thanks for this info. I have been looking into the quality of protein because I had run out of my Nectar and was waiting for a backordered shipment to come in and happened to have some Syntrax Matrix protein which wasn't 100% isolate. Like you say it is hard to tell how much your body is absorbing. I didn't know exactly what I was looking for but knowing about the amino acid info helped. Anyway I figured for a few days I would be ok.
  10. By the way where in Oregon are you? I am originally from Oregon my family is in Dallas, near Salem.
  11. I have a friend that had the surgery in June, he is 66. He also had medicare and had to pay some up front for the doctor. He is doing very well and has lost 70 lbs so far. He had several health issues and most have been resolved.
  12. It used to be diet Pepsi for me, I cut way back before surgery and didn't have any problems after(headachs, cravings). Now I drink diluted crystal light and diluted propel, along with ice water. I found I really like my drinks cold. I have been thinking about making some herbal iced tea but haven't gotten around to that yet.
  13. Lookin' good! What a difference 30 lbs makes. Very noticable. Great job!
  14. I've lost 39lbs since surgery and 10 more before surgery and I haven't changed sizes yet. I have noticed a loss in my arms, face, neck and legs, but alas my belly..sigh... I know it will go eventually. One thing I have noticed is the relieved feeling I have when I see an article in a magazine or online for some new or old way to lose weight, the fact that I don't have to go there. I used to read them all knowing that if I tried it I might lose but eventually I would gain it back again. It's very freeing to know I don't have to go down that road again. I don't know if this makes any sense it is hard to explain.
  15. Thanks for the info, I've also tried many ways of journaling because it works for me. But like you if it messes up I quit. I wish I had seen this earlier as I just made an order to amazon. Oh well.
