    Anyone Else In This Situation?

    I just had my surgery in July. I'm eventually interested in getting pregnant, which is one of the reasons why I had the surgery. I was wondering if anyone else was in the situation that I'm in though. I'll be turning 38 next month, and I'm hearing my biological clock ticking very loudly. I know I need to wait to try to conceive, and I am doing that. I just wonder if anyone else was around my age and had a healthy baby after surgery? I have had PCOS and was not able to conceive before surgery, and I'm hoping the surgery will give me the opportunity to conceive. Anyone?

    Trying To Decide

    Hi, I am a person who has had RNY gastric bypass surgery last summer. I am also on anti-depressants. I have been through the withdrawal you were talking about, only with a different med, and I know about the "brain zaps". I am on a different anti-depressant now that doesn't make me gain any more weight. The damage had been done, however, with regard to the weight gain. Some things I think you might need to know are the following: 1. Something my doctor told me - 95% of people who lose weight will gain it back (this is meaning people who have NOT had the surgery) So dont beat yourself up for not having kept the weight off thus far. It's apparently something that is hard to do. 2. I agree with previous posters who said the lapband is not the way to go. I have read too many stories on this forum about people who have had to have revisions to their bands because of slippage, or whatever, and they end up getting one of the other surgeries anyway. Also, the other two surgeries have better results than the band. 3. I think instead of wondering if the antidepressants will make you gain the weight back, you should consider getting on a different anti-depressant. But to answer that question, I highly doubt you will gain all of the weight back with either the sleeve or gastric bypass. My father in law had gastric bypass and started at 500 pounds. He's lost lots of weight and yes, gained some back, but he's only around 350 now. Better than 500. 4. Regarding hanging skin, it depends on how big you are to start with, and how much you lose, but yes, many people have hanging skin. From what I hear though, it's worth it for all of the benefits you get from losing the weight. I'm not finished losing yet, so I cant really give you any guidance on the hanging skin stuff yet. 5. Regarding sabotaging yourself and gaining the weight back, I have this to say: Counseling, counseling, counseling!!! When you lose the weight, you go through a range of emotions. I never really understood that until it happened to me. What happens is hormones are stored in your fat. When you lose the fat, the hormones come back out. Then you have to either deal with the issues you are having or start a transfer addiction. This is why so many people have problems after surgery- they look for different coping mechanisms like drinking or shopping or whatever (those were my two issues which I'm fixing as we speak). I'm beginning exercising, and I hope this takes care of it. I'm also in counseling to help deal with my issues instead of eating them away. 6. If you read through this forum, you will see that the surgeries are a just good tool. You still have to do the work of trying to fix the reasons for eating. It forces you to cope instead of eating because you can no longer eat to cope. Hope this makes sense!! Good luck with whatever you decide to do.     Wow, seriously? Someone with experience in the subject is trying to give you advice (good advice I might add) and you criticize her for misunderstanding something you said? Let's take it down a notch here. She's totally right about the counseling. We have been using food as a drug for a while, then we are given no choice but to stop cold turkey with it.....counseling is really the minimum that should be done. We should also make sure to exercise, even though it's easy not to, given that we'll lose weight either way. Make no mistake, too many people look for other vices when they cant have the food to lean on any more. Positive coping mechanisms need to be in place BEFORE you get to that point. And if you're already having problems with dealing with how others view you, that just complicates the matter.

    Thinking About Getting Surgery! Help!

    Gastric Bypass surgery is one of the best things I ever decided to do. Couldn't be happier with the results. I really had no complications at all, but I know that some people do. Mine was a breeze. I'd do it over again in a heartbeat.

    Good luck to you, I had a job like that before. It was totally not worth staying at. But then again, it's a tough market out there right now. I'm still looking for work.

    Surgery Makes You A Morning Person?

    I think a lot of it depends upon your age. Younger folks I've been told need more sleep, and I personally am another insomnia before/after surgery person. I fall asleep around 8:30 or 9, get up a million times at night (probably due to the sleep apnea) and wake up for good around 4:30 or 5ish. I do get up a little earlier post surgery than I did pre-surgery.

    Anyone Else Experience The Sticking?

    I was having the same problems about 5 weeks out, and the doc told me a few things- first he approved me for coffee. He said sometimes in the mornings we have extra mucous in our pouch, and that can cause problems. I had problems with eating yogurt in the morning. He told me to try hot tea or coffee first, which would push the mucous through so everything I ate would be easier to go down. You could ask your doc (assuming it's not a stricture!!) and see if they will allow you to do that.

    Sleep Apnea

    I have noticed the problem with straps too. I have found that if I actually loosen the straps, the suction works better to hold it on. Otherwise, yeah- it's a great sleep, I can't believe I went so long without a CPAP.
  13. Not very well. Jealousy, but not obvious jealousy. It's really frustrating that people cant be happy for you. I try to leave it alone though because I know I was very sad when I was heavier, and I wouldn't put it past myself to be the same way....

    Don't worry so much- we all lose at different rates. Some people actually GAIN weight after surgery and then start to lose. You have to give your body time to get used to things. From 274 to 261 is really good!! You'll be fine- don't worry- the weight WILL come off. I was afraid that I wasn't going to lose any more weight several times but it keeps coming off. Just stick with the plan!

    Psych Test - Any Creative Ideas?

    There's no way they can't fit you in. Ask to speak to the office manager, then if that doesn't work, speak with the doc. Don't get upset, but be assertive about it, and explain your situation. Start with something like "I have a situation that I really need your help with...." try that first. If it doesn't work, ask about seeing another doc. But don't mention your willingness to see another doc until you have exhausted Plan A. Good luck to you!
  16. I noticed that I don't really have the cravings for certain foods that I used to, like pasta for example. I could totally never have any more and not care. Also, I noticed that some things feel better in my pouch than other things, so I don't think that's a taste change, just a preference change. For example, I used to not eat soup very much, and wasn't really crazy about it. I LOVE it now. It feels much better in my pouch than other things. Everyone is different!

    It wasn't long after all the info was submitted. It was a pain waiting though. I don't like waiting for things that are this big of a deal. I think that was the worst part for me, even though it didn't take long, maybe a week or two at the most if I remember right.

    I have UHC, and mine was completely covered- but it really depends on which plan you have in particular. I think they have many different plans. Some employers tailor their plan so they don't have to allow for gastric bypass surgery. You may want to call UHC and ask about your particular plan.
  19. I'm just not even gonna go there. The surgery is something I wanted and knew that soda was something i would have to give up. I didn't drink much soda to begin with, but every now and then I still have a temptation for an orange crush. Not worth it. SO not worth it. I NEVER want to go back to being as big as I was again. I was miserable, and it's just not worth it for a soda.

    I'd have to agree- you are very early out, but it wouldn't surprise me if they were the problem. I still can't have anything that is a liquid with sugar in it, or juice bars that have sugar in them.
  21. I have a LOT of stuff that I bought right before I decided to have surgery, and most of it is stuff from Talbots. I really would like to sell it, because I paid a lot for it, but I'm willing to accept offers. I also have a nice red wool coat that got worn maybe 3 times total last year.... It's cute. I'll post pictures of all this stuff later. PM me if you're interested. I was gonna take the stuff to good will or the consignment shop, but I just hate to do that with new stuff. Some of it still has tags, and bags (from online ordering). I will post lots of pics tomorrow. Have a great week!!     Welcome, Janelle! I had problems when I first got home from the hospital. I know some people dump on bananas. Maybe you could take some things out of your diet and see if that's causing it? You have to really be careful what you eat right now, because it really could be anything, in my experience. I haven't tried bananas because of the posts I've seen on here about people dumping from bananas. Good luck to you! I hope it resolves itself soon. It didnt take long for me to be regular again.
