I am a newbie/lurker. I have been reading all of your very informative posts prior to my surgery to attempt to understand what I was about to get myself into.
Here is my story:
My name is SaraLee and I am 30 years old with 2 daughters (ages 14 and 9). When I was a teenager I had anorexia nervosa up until I was 3 months pregnant with my first child. I had gestational diabetes during my last pregnancy and I knew I was at a higher risk of developing the disease in the next 10 years. I was exercising almost every day at lunch until I developed an issue with one of my bones in my right foot. I had surgery in 2006 to shorten a metatarsal and they found a tumor the size of a quarter on the nerve. It took me many months to heal and over a year and half to fully recover enough to just walk short distances. A few years ago I was diagnosed with high blood pressure and put on medication. I was also told that I was pre-diabetic, needed to go on the South Beach Diet and see a nutritionist by my PCP. I eventually developed type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol and was put on medication for both. Sometime in the last 5 years my PCP gave me a referral to see Dr. Callery for WLS. I went to the seminar/lecture and was in serious denial about my diabetes, etc. I was definitely not in the right frame of mind to make this decision.
I went to the seminar in April at Alvarado Hospital in San Diego and had almost all of the co-morbidities they listed in the presentation. I hated having diabetes as it was taking a huge toll on my life. I started a 1400 calorie diet given to me by the nutritionist on my first visit to Dr. Bhoryul
