11 weeks and some before/after photos

Kio

Ok, so I offered, then @CJireh demanded, so here goes... my first photos on TT.  :)  Fair warning, the quality on these is pretty bad - I have always avoided being photographed for obvious reasons, and I take terrible selfies.  There are a couple in here that were taken by Leah, but she's not exactly a star photographer herself.  I think in each of those, I have my eyes closed. -_-

Starting at my highest weight, around 350, about a year ago, here's a very blurry me Leah snapped when I was half asleep.  Included to demonstrate the epic chin(s)!

image12.jpeg.5302d5928928b3c233db98ac81116318.jpeg

The one below is from June of this year, at basically the same weight as the one above.  You can see I've done this pixie thing before... however, at that time my head looked a bit like a white bowling ball with a crew cut!  This is a Leah shot, so my eyes are closed, naturally.  I had to use a version of this with my eyes open for an article in our company newsletter, which spotlights random employees at random times and was having a teleworker round - you can imagine how proud I was of sharing it with my 500 coworkers...

image5.jpeg.ed97f01ddd9aef41ac6136be3c179d7f.jpeg

And this is me on September 8, 2017 - fresh out of surgery!  I was about 298, and as you can see ... I was pretty high when this was taken!  It was about two hours after surgery, I had already started walking, but I was banging on that morphine button pretty hard and pretty often.  I was also having some kind of bad rash/reaction to the face wash they gave me to use before surgery.

You can also see in this one why I rarely smile big for pictures... it makes me look a like a total lunatic. :)

image2.thumb.jpeg.c4e8848e9514fc4393a3e75524799c9d.jpeg

And now, here is me today!  I'm 259 in this one, with my new shiny haircut and about a football field less chin.

image3.thumb.jpeg.03e7da2132f9f2e07159823f4064d2c6.jpeg

And this one is a bit wider angle, still from today - proud of this one because look, I have a neck!  And the beginning of some shoulders...

image6.jpeg.2ba1cfeca2cf268dff4ec99dff23fe80.jpeg

That's it for the headshots - but when I hit 100 lbs lost I plan to post some full length shots from the night before surgery and some new shots I'll take when the blessed day arrives.  :)

UPDATED - Below are a couple of shots of me at 6 months -- 225 lbs, 39.something BMI.  Just wanted to keep photos all in one place, for a better record. Again - I totally suck at photography, apologies for that! Also apologies that I didn't clean the mirrors in these photos before I started taking pictures... ;) The first two are just headshots, and I don't see much difference between these and the one above (which is from 11 weeks after surgery).

And here's the full-length version I stole the "headshot" above from...

More updates in 3 months... :)

Yeah, it was a breakout of epic proportions - I definitely did not appreciate it.  I already have some rosacea, I didn't need that on top of it!  Or under it... or wherever, LOL.

Anyway, thank you!  I'm one of those people who had - have? a real disconnect about how I looked.  When I looked in the mirror at 355 I never saw the person in that top picture.  I was always able to say "It's not really THAT bad" until I looked at a picture of myself... and then I felt horrible.  Now, I sort of feel like stuff is melting off me from the top down!  I still have quite a belly to get through, and the flab is starting to be that "loose skin" everyone dreads... but i have to say, better loose skin than skin full of fat, because at least with loose skin I can walk the dog.

You're going to be posting your own before/after pics soon - you've already lost so much since surgery!  How are you feeling these days?

Oddly enough, I am the same way. I knew I was heavy but there were always heavier ppl so I couldn't be THAT bad....then I'd see a picture of me and nearly gasp right out loud!  I'd walk past a store window and see my reflection and barely recognize myself Bc I never saw myself as fat as I really was.

No before and after a for me yet....as I haven't lost an ounce in two weeks. I am stalled big time but I'm trying not to worry.  I mean, no one has ever failed to lose weight with the surgery, right???  Ppl have gained it back but never not lost to begin with, right?!?

I am due for AF tomorrow so I'm hoping that is why I'm not losing but then if I haven't lost by next week, I'm going to literally pull my hair out so that I can lose a few ounces...haha!!!

You're at about the same spot I was when I had a little stall.  Your body just has to get used to the new normal!  Unless you're drinking milkshakes every day for your "fluid goal" you're going to start losing again - and probably really soon!

I had a two week or so stall at around 3 weeks, and through the month I generally have one fast loss week, one no-loss week, and two slooooooow loss weeks.  It averages out to enough to keep me happy, but I always raise my eyebrow at the scale when it refuses to move!

Don't pull your hair out, though - that'll start coming out on its own soon enough! ;)

First I'd like to say Kio you are looking great! Keep up the awesome work.

Second, CJireh,  I have also been on a nice long stall 384 lbs for the last 9 days. It is also driving me nuts. Before surgery I was a steady Freddy, losing about a half pound every day. Now I seem to crash a bunch of weight off and then sit in one place. We just have to keep the faith and work the system. The stall will have to break eventually, the laws of physics say so, and if it doesn't I will pimp myself out as a perpetual source of energy.

That is all i have the choice to do too, right, Austin? :)

I just didn't expect this...especially when it was so good leading up to it and now, bam! done!  I know it will start up again, I am just feeling impatient.  Plus I keep thinking what if my body adjusted to this low calorie thing and turned its metabolism way down?   Ugh....i just need to break this stall then I won't worry so much!

Stay on plan and you'll get to where you want to be. I think most folks lose patience, but it isn't a race, it's a rest-of-your-life effort and enormously worth it!

Me too, don't feel bad it's not just you. I've been at the same weight plus or minus 1/2 lb for over a week now.

{sigh} this too shall pass...

@CJireh Here's my first few weeks after surgery. Those blips really threw me, but believe me, the stalls will end and your losses will continue!

oh that is so interesting.....i didn't realize that the 3 of use first weekers from Nov were all stalled....I thought it was just me so as much as it stinks for you and Austin too,  I am feeling like it must be a normal thing and we can get through it and start going down again!

Austin and Michael, my scale finally moved down slightly.  1/2 pound but I will take it.  i've been seeing 217-218 on my scale for two weeks and this am it was 216.4 so that made me sigh a relief!  We gotta just keep at it, and everyone is right, it will eventually move down......

Ignore the decimals - take the win! Any decimals are probably just water anyway.

LOL, I'll take it!

I just finished getting a root canal and she wanted to know if I could chew on the temporary crown....I tried it and then laughed to myself. I don't chew anyway since everything is pureed!!!! But next week when I get real food I'll use it for sure!!!

LOL - yeah, chewing is not exactly a problem for you right now, @CJireh!

actually since the numbing stuff wore off, I have been in a lot of pain (she wasn't the gentlest of dentists and she pulled my jaw every which way and it was over 2 hrs i was there)....tonight I accidently bit down on that temporary crown and nearly saw stars and thought if I wasn't on purees already, I would put myself on them today!  And then I went and got a 1/2 cup of nonfat greek yogurt and said 'good thing I am prepared'!  :)

My stall must be gone! I am down a WHOLE POUND today!!!  So I went from 217.6 to 215.4 in two days!!!!  FINALLY!  I was so excited to head to the scale this am and thought it had better be down or I'd be discouraged (especially if it went up).  When it was down I thought it was just like those 2 wks pre op where I lost every day!!!! Pretty exciting! :D

@Kio You look stunning. I’m 100% serious. You look youthful and happy! You might want to get Leah a Groupon for some photography classes. She’s going to be taking many more pictures of you. :)

@CJireh I stalled out at 3 weeks and depressed that I had “only” lost around 25 lbs. I was a nutcase. The weight will keep moving down. Don’t you worry.

@NerdyLady, first of all I've missed you! I haven't been around as much lately but I haven't seen you....I hope your mother is well.

I lost 26# in 5.5 weeks and so when I think of it that way I am embarrassed that I complained!  It took me months and months to lose that much in the past so why am I not stunned at my 5.5 week loss???  It has to be my perspective....and I have to change that!

Interestingly enough, I bought some clothes at Goodwill in October (when I went to get some sweatpants for after surgery and pjs for the hospital), well I picked up a few tops there for $2-3 to hold me over since it was getting cooler.  I put one on when I got home and realized even though it was a 1X, it was so tight I couldn't wear it.  SO, tonight I was heading out to our bible study and i pulled it out to see how it fit and it wasn't lose but it was actually pretty big!!! I was so stunned!  I should have taken a before/after pic in that shirt!  Then when we got to our friends' house, (I haven't been since a few days before my surgery) she was STUNNED at how much I had lost so if I don't keep staring at the scale and comparing I will be much better off!!!

@CJireh First off, in retrospect, i think it’s normal to be disappointed at such a “small” loss. We spend every agonizing hour leading up to WLS and are secretly surprised when we don’t lose 100lbs in the first week. When you look back, you’ll chuckle at your impatience. 25 becomes 50 and the 75... You get where I am going.

Several months ago, I bought a pair of size 12 jeans thinking that they would last me forever. Ha! Wrong!! I’m glad you didn’t spend a lot of money on those tops!
