10 weeks tomorrow!

Just a quick update, since I haven't done one in a while.  Things are going pretty well!  My energy is high, my weight loss is on track, all good there.

My only complaint is that I've had some trouble with eating dense protein - I know I'm still very early out, but my nutritionist wants me getting most of my protein from real food right now, and that just... does not happen.  I get by with some protein shakes and bars, and a lot of cheese, basically.  Had about a week where I kept trying to eat more dense foods and failing.... so I dunno, maybe the time just isn't right for me yet.  The problem came in when I tried to eat something, sat with it irritating my pouch for an hour, threw up, then couldn't eat for another couple of hours until I felt better.  Those days I definitely didn't hit my protein goals, and my calories were super, super low.  (I also couldn't figure out how to calculate the goal - did EVERYTHING come back up?  What stayed down?  How many grams?  I decided in the end to throw up my hands and surrender - on days when I can't keep dense protein down, I'm not meeting my goals, and that's all I need to know.  Now I've stopped trying to eat stuff like eggs and meat for a while, and life is a bit easier, goals are getting met... all good.

I did find some shrimp, peeled and de-veined but not cooked!  I made three pieces and was able to keep THOSE down for about an hour... then not so much.  I've got some salmon to try, which is not dense but still protein and real food, but I haven't been brave enough yet.

I also cut all my hair off!  I'd show you guys a picture but my camera's in the other room.  I started to see more hair in the shower drain, and figured I'd just get it over with.  I have the pixiest of pixies right now, and since my face is starting to have an actual shape, it's not bad.  :)  The last time it was this short, I didn't feel cute at all.  This time, I almost kind of do!

At this point I'm sooooo close to 100 lbs down I can feel it.  I'm 259, which is the lowest weight I've been in about ten years.  I lost 57 lb before surgery, and I've lost almost forty since surgery - hard to wrap my head around.  I'm now smaller than my next-largest friend!  Leah makes jokes about how she's going to kick my @*# now, while I still have one ;).  It's true - the weight is coming off my butt like crazy.  It's also coming off my face, my chin, my neck, my upper arms, my thighs... everywhere but my belly, really.  I'm going to end up reeeeeally funny looking if that doesn't change soon!

Tonight I went for a long walk with Leah and the dog, and didn't hurt, and didn't have to stop halfway up any hills!  After the walk, I felt a little tired, but not so tired I couldn't stand up and do dishes, wander the house, etc.  No noodle legs!  One thing I've found interesting about exercise is how hard it is for me to say yes to it.  Every time Leah walks the dog, she asks if I want to come.  I try to say yes most of the time, but it's difficult. I still FEEL like I can't do it.  I feel like I'm going to get too tired, that I'm going to fall over, that I'm going to hurt too much.  But then when I do say yes and go along... it's really quite easy.  My brain and my heart just haven't caught up yet to the physical reality of what I can do now.

Now I'm off to bed, but I wanted to check in and let everybody know I'm okay and still on track.  :)

Sounds like everything is on track for being at 10 weeks out. I wasn't eating much in the way of solid protein at that point, either. Tofu, cheese, Greek yogurt, and cottage cheese were my friends. It'll happen, but it just takes some time.

Congrats on your losses so far. 40 pounds since surgery is 4 pounds per week! Wow! It's flying off of you! As for the exercise, it really does get easier as you get lighter. At the weight you are currently, I was still not feeling super happy about exercise. Mostly just "I have to" not "I want to." Now I want to - but it's easier to say yes when it feels good. It'll happen to you at a certain point :)

What a great update! So happy about the energy level and weight loss! Fantastic! I'm excited to see your new haircut. So fun! You're doing great. No need to rush the dense protein. Scallops, crab legs, and tilapia always went down easy for me if you're looking to try more things. I also got small amounts of deli meats sliced as thin as possible. That went well. Take your time. Nice work!

Delightful post. Great progress! and clearly you're listening to your body... maybe shredding the dense protein (so it looks like pulled pork or something similar) will help or the thin slices  of deli meats like @Grettamentions... I buy good prosciutto, trim any remaining fat, and snack on that... low-sugar beef jerky works for me too.

Well done and watch for the Weight Loss Gremlins telling you can't do something that you CAN do!

Being down about 100 pounds is fabulous!!  Just stick with it and you'll get to onederland in a few months.

In terms of dense protein - I suggest dishes made with ground chicken or ground turkey.  For example, there are some very tasty fresh chicken sausages sold in the supermarkets, and chicken or turkey meatballs or chili are other options.  If you do not eat poultry, try eating some baked cod (which, as you know, we call scrod in New England :D) using really fresh fish - it should be mild on your stomach.

You are doing really great and taking up much less room on the losers bench now! :)

Closing in on 100 already?!?!?  You'd better come back for a  victory lap next week or whenever you hit that!!!

Sounds like you're doing great. Have you tried tilapia?  Of all the seafood, that seems to me like the less fishy and less heavy so that might help when you're ready to try again.

I'm not sure I'm ready for more yet either. Though I did purée chicken breast, added olive oil mayo, milk and sweet pickle and it is finely puréed (not just chopped) and it was delicious and went down fine, but I could "feel it" in my chest for a while and I don't like that feeling. So today I protein end shaked the am, chicken salad for lunch and back to protein shake for dinner. Until I'm more comfortable with the puréed stuff, I'm not going whole hog with it.

im like you with exercise....I never want to start but once I do, I'm good to go.  What I used to tell my members when I worked at a health club is....commit to yourself to go for just ten minutes. If after ten minutes you want to go home, go ahead (so maybe you can say you'll go around one block or down to the corner and if you want to be done, you'll go back home).....here's the beauty of it, 95% of the time, you'll keep going bc your endorphins will kick in and you'll want to go more....and if worse comes to worse, you go home!  Try it ....it might work for you and help you get over the initial push to get out knowing it's only ten minutes that you have to do.

Anyway, good report. It's a process, clearly. I'm finding that myself. But I'm sure it'll be worth it. Your success along can fuel you to continue. I haven't lost anything all week, so I'm less motivated. (But I know I will in time).

I don't know if you're a fan of the buffalo chicken dip, but you can make it with really small bits of chicken and since it's buried in cheese, it may stay down? I don't use anything to dip it with; I just eat it from the spoon, lol. It has 10 grams of protein a serving and only 3g carbs. You can make it as mild or hot as you want. Just an idea. Sounds like you're doing great though. :)

I use the Frank's recipe below. The dressing probably contains some sugars but it just calls for 1/2 a cup and spread out over servings it shouldn't be much. For the chicken, I always bake the chicken breast then shred it, or I buy a rotisserie chicken and cut the meat off and shred it. I just loathe canned or cooked (boiled) chicken.

Thanks! I crocked 8 pcs of chicken breast the other day.  I made chicken salad (puréed) with one and will use one for this!  I'll just use lower fat cream cheese and low fat dressing (tho I'll have to check out the sugar content then.....but you're right, it is only a little bit we are eating so it probably isn't too high no calories)

Another idea I've had is using a little fajita seasoning on some shreadded chicken. Tenderize a couple strips of bell peppers and mix those in. With a little melted cheese, I'd say it could be purèed. I bought some of the 'Minute Macros' unflavored protein powder and I've been sprinkling it on and mixing it in everything. You cannot tasts it at all. It's just $13.00 for a one pound bag and free shipping. A little cheaper than the Isopure (I think that's the name.). I will add the link below. It's the 'unflavored' of course. I ordered it on Saturday and got it Tuesday. I even add it to my tea, and it tastes exactly the same.

Sorry, didn't mean to double post that. Is there no way you can delete a reply/post?

Looks like I can, so I deleted the first one for you :)
