About Me
I am Bonnie Rose. I am 27 years old and have been married for 5 1/2 years.
My husband and I met in Kindergarten and started dating when we were TWELVE in the 7th grade! We got married after college, when we were 21.
I have PCOS and this started my weight problems when I hit puberty at about 9 or 10 years old. I played Volleyball and was in track and cross country through Jr High and continued track in High school. It really didn't matter. Even though my cardiovascular health was okay, I was still overweight and still suffered from the symptoms of my PCOS. When I was 13 I weighed 175 lbs and when I got married at 21, I was 212 lbs. In 2010 at my first appointment with the WLSurgeon, I was 232.5 lbs.
I didn't know that I had PCOS until I was in college. I THOUGHT it was a BRIGHT light at the end of a LONG tunnel! I went to an Endocrinologist and he prescribed Metformin. It made me sick, but I pushed through. He doubled the dose after it didn't do anything and I became even sicker, but still pushed through. After about 6 months, he took me off of it because it wasn't doing anything. I got married, lost my parent's insurance, and moved 40 miles away from the Dr. (and didn't go back)
I got insurance about a year later and went to a new Endo, who put me through the Metformin track again. Took me off about 6 months later and put me on Byetta. I shot myself up with that for about 6 months and still no change in my PCOS. this was in 2009. I pretty much gave up on losing weight or ever being free of the PCOS symptoms (including the infertility).
I had looked into weight loss surgery in 2008 and my insurance didn't cover it. My mom's did though!!!!! She went through the process, having her RNY in July 2008! I was laid off in Feb 2009 and lost that insurance. I waited until open enrollment for DH and got on his insurance in Jan 2010. YAY!!! THEY COVER WEIGHT LOSS SURGERY!!!!!!
Dec 2009: WLS Seminar
Jan 2010: First Appointment w/ WLS Dr
Feb 2010: EGD / Psych Appointment
Mar '10 - Sep '10: Completed all the requirements for nutrition, Dr's appointments
Sept '10 - Submitted for Approval
Oct '10 - Discovered insurance papers were out of date and my Dr's office NEVER CALLED THEM so I wasn't even covered at that Dr. (even though they were an Excellence Office, the hospital he practiced in wasn't)
Nov '10 - At Insurance company recommendation, went to a new Dr at a new hospital about 40 miles away (back where my first Endo was in college!) It was a blessing because he did tests, labs, sleep study etc stuff that I'm not sure WHY the first Dr didn't do! They were going to use everything from the first Dr, so it would only take a few weeks for them to submit for pre-cert!!!
Dec '10 - THIS DR ISN'T COVERED EITHER?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! WHAT?!?!?!?!?!?!! The Insurance told me THEMSELVES to go to him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dec '10 - Started at Overlake Medical Center & Hospital with Dr. Thien Nguyen He is amazing and did even more labs that he didn't have. He took everything from my other two Dr's (by this time I had a binder of medical records I could bring with me!) Jan '10 - Appointment with Dr Nguyen's Nut and PT... He submitted to insurance
