Default Gurgle gurgle

Dear all,

Am so relieved to have discovered this site!! Now I don't feel like I am the only person in the world to be going through this.

I am 4 weeks post-operative and having a few hiccups - literally.

I have constant pain where the stoma has been formed and it is really getting to me. I didn't expect to have pain for so long afterwards.

I am still on fluids and soft foods but anything more sold cause much pain so now I avoid.

The weight is coming off but I am asking myself was it really worth it?

Do any of you have painful gurgling and wretching when you take fluids or soft foods? Even taking sips of water produces loud and paiful rumblings in my guts.

Any other stories or suggestions would help me out as I am feeling fed up!

Yorkie

Hi Yorkie! When do you see your surgeon again? Definately would call his office to talk through your concerns... they ARE NOT NORMAL! You shouldn't be feeling this crummy at 4 weeks out!

Hang in there --- and let me know what they have to say about you!!!

Katie

Default Another Hashemi Babe...

Hi Yorkie

I see you are a patient of Mr Hashemi, also my Consultant. I am now 7 weeks post op and it still isn't easy for me either. He is the most amazing surgeon but told me he is making the outlet alot smaller these days and I think that is possibly why we are finding it hard to get anything of substance down us. At 4 weeks I felt probably the same as you. It is hard going initially and I have come across many of us that feel the same.

See how you feel within the next couple of weeks, then make an appointment to check things out again on a Monday which is his Consulting day.
Wishing you well, and if there is anything I can help you with feel free to post me.

Default how worrying?

i am also a patient of mr hashemi and am only 3 days out.

My belly is gurgling like a steam train, but im just putting it down to the gas pumped into you during the op?

Well at least i was till i read this!!

I hope the "gassiness" goes away.

Bianco, could you tell me when you first came out and were on your liquid post op diet, how did you know when you'd had enough? I had a small cup of coffee tonight but didnt want to stop drinking it, but only did cos i was scared i'd drink too much and be sick?

Also, now you fully post-op what can/can't/don't/wont eat?

Carl.

Have you guys tried the gas-x strips. They really seem to help me even at 7 months out with the gurgles and foamies, when I get them. I take one or two and then I am able to eat or drink something without hugging the porcelien God. It only happens occasionally, but they do help.

Carl,
You can't really go wrong with drinking a full cup of coffee. I felt full after drinking a cup but I managed to drink it all. As time goes on you have to drink half an hour before any solids and not again until half an hour after. Sometimes difficult if you have been used to sipping whilst eating. Don't be scared to drink the liquid, if you are still nervous just take a little break in between.
In reply to the other questions, I will PM you. I am 2 months out, bypass on 4th June and still not managing an awful lot, so there is more I can't have than I can have at the moment!

Default Hang in there!

I'm 2 months out and still have a lot of pain until I figured out it was mostly gas...also any time I over-exert myself I pay with pain on my left side. I try to take it easy, but I have 2 little ones and a husband who is deployed overseas, life has to go on!!!
I also have discovered the joys of dumping...apparently sugar free rice pudding cups and eggs cooked any kind of way do not agree with me. I've tried them on 2 separate occasions to see if I was having a bad day or if it was the food, it was the food.
