Red face Body % loss

Hello to everyone on the TT forum.

I am sorry it has been a while since being online but I am having trouble with my laptop interent connection so must now go upstairs and use the big old one which is so slow and wont always connect to TT.

I thought I would ask people about this EXCESS BODY WEIGHT LOSS.

I went to brimingham on wednesday and was told that people who have a gastric band fitted are expected to loose between 40-50% excess body weight in the first year? IS THIS CORRECT?

I was told that I have lost 81% and that is good but? My weight loss is not as good as it could be???? I was 18st 10 months ago. I now weigh 11st 7lbs which is 1st 7lbs off my target that I set for myself.

I was wondering is anyone had any information on how much we should be loosing in lbs rather than %.

Many thanks Dianne and I hope you are alll having a good weekend.

Default that's what I heard to

The information that I was given was the same:

With the band a person an average lost about 50% of their excess weight:
meaning if a person weighed 200 lbs and the healthy weight (BMI) was 100 lbs then the excess weight is 100 lb, you would expect to lose about 50 lbs.

But with the bypass, a person is expected to lose about 75% - 80%. So in the same scenario , the expected loss would be 75 - 80 lbs.

That's is the "average" lost in about 12 - 18 months.

Thats just one of many reasons I decided to go for the bypass.

Smile Confused

Hello thank you for taking the time to reply.

I thought then if you have lost the excess like me then you must be on target? I was told I could have done better by now and might not reach my target (which I set) so another 21lbs for me to loose in 8 weeks is not going to be possible now is it?

I think the bypass option was not available to me they said I was not heavy enough? My BMI was 49.9 when I started and now it is 27.6.

I guess everyone has diffferent rules.

How is your bypass going.

Smile no surgery date yet

I am still on the road to being approved... I decided on bypass based on all of the information that I had. Some of my local insurance companies consider the lap band reversable, so they are harder to approve that.Plus the bypass is recommended more people who have 100 pounds + to lose.

I think that you have done wonderfully and if you are feeling good and are healthy, I think those are inportant measurements too - not just weight.

Just my two cents

Question I think your right

Hello Lizzie

I hope you get your approval as it will change your life what ever you have done. For me I am better now health wise but feel like I want to go lower than 10stone to get the most from the band and the cost of the operation.

There are more people having this done on our NHS now as it seems the PCT here can see that being overweight is not a food problem alone and they understand people better.

I also like the fact that through this I have made some new friends and that is great as the support and care from them is essential.

you take care Dianne
