Default Date, Dilemma and Pre Op Diet...

Well finally I have a date for RNY bypass. 4th June, I should be ecstatic and initially I was.
My dilemma at the moment is should I have it now.
Why...
I have been given a pre op diet. I have 5 weeks to my date of operation. The pre op diet consists of soup and yoghurt (I am sure you all know the one). I expected it and counted the days til I got it, because then I knew I was really on my way! However...
I am one of my surgeon's smallest patients. A very deceivable 111k and most people I read about have had only approx 2 weeks on this liquid diet. I am at a loss to know why I have been given it 5 weeks and counting. So far I have done one day. Because I feel 5 weeks is drastic, I wonder will I now cope when I can't eat for another few weeks post op. Is my will strong enough. I have eaten, slept and breathed this coming surgery for months until now. I feel such a failure, because one day out and I am moaning I have so many weeks to go compared to others.

I appreciate I will have to be on this but I can't get my head around 5 weeks of it. One because I am half the size of most of his patients, and two why have they initially been given a 2 week no carb diet and then 2 week liquids. Why is it different for me? Yes I did ask the pre assessment nurse, and was told it's because I carry my weight around the middle. Well I think a lot of people do. So before I even start this journey I am moaning and feeling sorry for myself. In my head I was quite prepared for 14 days of liquid until I heard I have 5 weeks of it. I can feel me sliding off the wagon before I have begun properly.

So can anyone tell me what is roughly the average time they have been given this liquid diet for? Or am I just being over reactive? Either way, I feel a bit better just for writing it down. Several girls tell me, just go on the no carbs for 2 weeks and then do 3 of liquids. I just don't want to jeapordise this surgery.
Would be grateful for your views.

Hey there Bianco

Aye Carumba - 5 weeks!

I didn't have to do any diet whatsoever with Dr Dillemans and I was around the same weight as you. Have you got any additional medical condition prompting your surgeon and how much does he want you to lose? You'll probably lose 30lbs on just yoghurt and soup - eek!

Default Hmmm

Hello,

I am now 3 weeks post-op and I did my operation with Dr Dillemans. I was not put on any liquid diet as well. I was also a very light patient and he even said it would be great if I can put on 2-3 kg...I know he put on liquid diet only patenits with bmi more than 50...you are also very light so 5 weeks sounds very strange...Maybe you dont have to follow so stricktly the rules since you will loose so much until your surgery date...and in general people are 2 weeks or 10 days on liquid diet not 5 weeks...Sounds hard!!!

I wish you success....

Default Pre Op Diet 4 weeks and counting!

Thanks ladies...

First week has been horrendous, twined between no carb and soup. But this coming week I feel I have to have a bit of routine and do one or other. One week down and 4 to go! Yes it is hard and have read the threads and no one seems to have had it this hard. My BMI is 45.
I know Dr Dillemans patients don't have to do the diet always. I suppose my surgeon has his reasons. I will question big time when I get to talk to the pre assessment nurse again!

Thanks again for your comments.
