DR DILLEMANS GASTRIC RNY PATIENTS(self pay people) in uk and ireland
I think i have made my decision it's scare the hell out of me but I will do it.
I have sent an e-mail to doctor Dillemans(from a previous post) but no reply yet.
Now I 'm trying to find out what is the best way to do it,
this forum seem full of very nice people and I would love it to hear from you all self pay people in belgium, I have read a couple of post but I'm none the wiser.
Basically what i would like to know, is it better to organize hotel and flight myself and just pay the doctor for the surgery and what about aftercare where to i get checked for my follow ups and so on..
Has anybody used an organization such as direct health or directly done it themselves.
please advise
love letizia

Hej Letizia,
I have contacted direct healthcare for surgery with Dr. Dillemans. I filled in the questionnaire, submitted some additional questions of my own. Amanda Perino is the admin contact I have had. She has been helpful on the phone but I have a little concern to finalise my booking. This is due to waiting to hear from him directly about my queries and am also waiting to pay my deposit. I have a place provisionally booked for 5th December. Look around this website http://www.direct-healthcare.com/st-jans.htm. Hope to see you there then!
Keep me informed about the path you are taking. I prefer direct healthcare to european obesity. All the best!

And what about after care do you know what happens is it included in the package i'm still unclear about that!

Healthcare Direct
Hej Letizia,
the price list is on the website. The whole event is expensive, but considerably less than in the UK.
There is a place in Leeds which seems good, but more expensive.
Another consideration, an essential one for me, is the MRSA killer bug in UK hospitals, where 1 in 4 contract it! Ugh!
One of the advantages of going package is that there is a medical insurance included should things go wrong. The website is pretty good.
I have contacted GWEN to hear her views on her stay in Bruges. Hopefully she will kindly reply soon!
Keep me updated!
Cheers for now,

Hi there
Just let you know, I also booked through direct-healthcare and Amanda Perino was my contact. She was great and everything went through really smoothly. When I did all the sums, it looked a bit more expensive than the bare minimum price but because of being very busy at work etc, I really wanted someone else to organise the whole package for me i.e. flights from Stansted, taxi's from airport to hotel and then to and from the hospital etc. They even threw in taxi's for my husband every day to and from the hospital (so might be worth asking about this too!). I wanted a really stress-free trip and got one.
Overall, if I had paid for the separate bits myself, it would not have been that much cheaper and I didn't have the hassle of organising it all. I also had the peace of mind of added health insurance.
p.s the hotel was exceptionally good - really luxurious and also offered free bariatirc meals (for the patient) after the op.
Good luck with all.
Cheers!
