Hello Gwen,
I have emailed you! Since then, I have today paid my deposit with Amanda Perino at Healthcare Direct, for surgery on 5th December! Now I know how the others feel when they have been "approved".
I look forward to hearing from you when you get a chance!
Many thanks,
Cheer

It really is so exciting!
I'm just thrilled to be going! Amanda Perino is also my contact person at direct health care, it really does seem the much more hassle free way to go, i mean who needs the added pressure of organising hotels, taxi's etc when you have surgery to be done? looking forward to hearing how you get on, i will be leaving two days after you get back vim!! i will keep you up to date, hubby will let you all know on the day of surgery or just after how i'm doing. i just can't wait to get the journey under way.

Hi Hairy - hubby of Jojooc!
Yep, it was the Park Hotel and it was much bigger in real life than the photo on it's own website depicts. We had room 206 which was very spacious with two large double beds (we only used one) an LCD TV, nice size bathroom (with two sinks, both a bath & a shower cubicle and hairdryer), a lovely dining/breakfast table and smaller coffee table, all with comfy chairs - and a iron/trouser press - not to mention two little balconies with window doors.
As the 'patient' I could have breakfast/lunch/dinner (yoghurt, porridge, soup, crispbread, pureed fruit) brought to the room free of charge if I wanted. However, the breakfast (free with your stay) in the dining room was also very good for hubby - range of cereals, breads, jams, cold meats, boiled eggs, cheeses, juice, tea/coffee etc.
The hotel is located on a lovely big pedestrianised square with fountains/ statues/restaurants etc - so don't forget the camera. The square also has a big Saturday market - worth a visit if you're there at the weekend.
Gosh, I sound like an advert for the bl**dy place! But we knew very little about it before going out and were definitely pleasantly surprised.
Good luck to you all!
Cheers!

Thanks Trinket, it sounds just about up to my high standards. By any chance, did either of you happen to notice whether there is Internet in the room?

Hi Hairy
No internet I'm afraid. I wanted to check email etc and asked at reception. The in-house internet access was expensive - can't remember exact figures but we think it was something like £3-£4 for 15 mins or perhaps 20 mins(?). We asked about an internet cafe but although the staff knew there was one somewhere, they couldn't say where it was. We couldn't be bothered to go seek. However, I don't think there were many such cafes as we come across any on our walk around the town etc. Lucky hubby had a good book to read!
Have done a quick search and perhaps this will help:
