I spent the last 3 weeks at the hospital with pancreatitis and gallbladder removal. A day after finally getting out, I was back in with dangerously low sodium. Does anyone else have this problem? I'm so scared of it happening again, I literally shook some salt into my water when I got home. They have me on a fluid restriction because obviously fluids dilute the sodium in my body. I'm just scared of it happening again.

I don't eat much at all at this stage after surgery, the doctor thinks my pouch may be a little small so I mostly just drink protein so my sodium intake is very low. Is it silly to just plain mix salt with water to get my sodium intake up? This whole thing is backwards to me!

I am afraid that I cannot comment on the low sodium because I don't know anything about it, but I just wanted to say that I am so sorry that you are having such a hard time.  What did they suggest when they discharged you from the hospital?  Perhaps there is medication you can take.

Are the salt (sodium) pills you can take? Am also really sorry to hear you've been so sick! How it gets better for you soon:)

I have low sodium. It took me a while to figure it out. You can buy salt tablets online. Don't search for sodium tablets though, you won't find them. Symptoms are lack of appetite, muscle cramps (mine are in my feet and legs), low blood pressure. My BP runs about 80 over 50 (sometimes lower). One salt tablet a day keeps that symptoms away. :)

Maybe some soft tofu with lots of soy sauce?  I must be a real salt-a-holic because I track my food on caloriecount.com and my salt has not been low ever.  Good luck feeling better!

thank you everyone! I'm back at work today, trying to get back into the swing of things. I'm going to order those salt tablets on amazon.com! lol I'll be salting my water and tea until then.

I can't stand the taste of salt so pills are my only option. What's your blood pressure like?
