Has anyone gone to Dr. Colella at upmc? I went to his information session last night and was impressed as he does robotic. Just wondering if anyone has any insight on bedside manner, accessibility, etc.

I am new to this also and I am also going to Dr. Colella, I have heard nothing but great things about him. One of my co-workers had her surgery done by him and raved about his caring and professional personality.

So glad to hear! He seemed wonderful at the seminar. Hey, I just noticed our stats are the same. I have my first appointment with him on April 20. Keep me posted on how things go with your journey.

I've heard really good things about Dr. Colella. I am attending my informational seminar next Monday, the 21st at St. Margarets. Any ideas on what to expect?

He's very personable. He stayed until everyone's questions were answered, didn't rush through and is very experienced. I was really impressed with him and he does robotic, which is great.

I had my surgery done by Dr. Colella on June 7th. He is a great surgeon, his bedside manner is wonderful, he is very patient and takes time to answer every question. Since having my surgery he has been very accessible, talks to you personally when you call with concerns or questions. His nurse Leigh is wonderful too!

I'm also going through St. Margaret's, but with Dr. Peluso. Everyone in their office has been great so far. Congrats on your surgery! I'm not there yet, probably looking at Oct or Nov.

I can't wait to have my surgery - I have a hang up because I was diagnosed with mild sleep apnea and have to get a cpap and get it titrated before pulm will give me clearance. @pghmanda, did Dr. Collela give you diet instruction at all? I met with the dietitian and she gave me a booklet but said that it wouldn't really apply to me because Dr. Collela has a different diet progression than the other docs. I have my second appointment with him tomorrow and I've been impressed with he and Leigh so far. Definitely comfortable with him.

I just had my 6 week follow up on Monday and he has basically told me to explore all foods (within reason) at this point. at my first post-op appointment he gave me a list of specific foods to try (ie. scrambled eggs, chili, tuna or chicken salad with light mayo, salmon and white fish, cottage cheese, yogurt)
I was kind of surprised that he basically told me to start trying and seeing how I tolerate new stuff so soon. At any rate, I am very pleased with him and I love Leigh. They're both great and always communicate with you. I spoke with the dietitian today and she basically said I was on track. I "friended" you and would love to follow your progress and offer support any way I can. By the way- the booklet is so overwhelming. I'm not getting much of what they suggest in (food wise) because I'm so focused on protein and water first.
