Hello,
My name is Dessa, and I had verticle sleeve surgery on May 9th, 2011. I started around 260lbs, and was about 250 on surgery day and am now teethering between 195-200lbs.  It has been a mainly disappointing journey for me, although I do not discount the progress I have made.  Last month I fasted with my church and was able to get down to 189lbs from 211lbs.  From October 2011 till the time I started that fast, I had been in a complete stall.  I've had more stalls than losses, I didnt' even lose any weight immediately post op.  I have adrenal fatigue, and in October I was on hormonal birth control when the stall occurred.  I want to make my goal of 142 by my 36th birthday, which is July 14th, and be below 160 by my surgiversary.  Today is my 9 month surgiversary and I really thought I'd be further along than this.

Carbs are not my friend.  I gain immediately and I even stall when I eat fruit (And I mean STALL).  Also, I have eczema that reacts to carbs.  When TOM comes I want carbs--sweets :(  TOM came Saturday, a week after my fast ended where I was eating all veggies that whole week then later I had a candy craving thatwould not stop, and I gave into it.  I have it under control now, but I tipped back up to 200lbs even.  I've been this weight for a couple of days so I think this is my true starting point post-fast.  3 months to go before my one year mark.  I would love to lose 40lbs now.

I belong to the gym next door to work, and I will make an effort to be there at least 3 times a week, and when I am unable to go, I will walk (I work in the field a lot).  I drink protein pretty well, and take my supplements at night.  I will concentrate on eating earlier in the day (I tend to not eat breakfast and lunch if I'm too busy).  It's a habit change for me that I know I need to see through if I want the results I need.

I decided to blog here for tips and to journal everything I do so that I can keep track of my progress.  I know I can do this. It has been harder for me than most people, but I can still do this.

Breakfast-lunch

Thursday:  Protein shakes (75g total throught the work day), homemade cucumber salad.
Water Goal: 70oz
Baked chicken wings (1 and a half at lunch)
Dinner:  Homemade burboun chicken made with sweetener instead of sugar and broccolli.

Please don't get discouraged on your weight loss journey. You are making progress and getting healthy. From what I was reading maybe you need more calories in your day. Have you seen a nutritionist lately?  It seems like I eat all day well maybe I do I start my intake with a morning protein shake then for breakfast I get Greek yogurt with fruit some type of berries. For lunch I will eat chili with crackers or a couple spoons of rice then a snack I get in hummus, pita. For dinner I will eat baked chicken, a veggie and rice. Sometimes I get a snack which would be milk or fruit with nuts. I fluctuate on the scale so I weigh myself every 3 months at my dr appt but I know have progress my clothes are loose and always switching sizes. Good luck on your journey.

Thanks!  I think my problem does lie in my nutrition.  I have the remove the lifelong routine of eating sporadically.  It has been hard to get it out of my head, so I have a plan starting today to finish the following week with more intentional eating.  I just ate some minute steak with a small dollop of cream.  For breakfast I had an atkins daybreak bar (I was on the run), and had another one for a snack before just sitting down to eat the steak.  What time do you stop eating?  B/C I get home late from work, sometimes it will be after 8pm before i have dinner...I think I will start like I did once before, making the dinner for the familiy and packing my breakfast and lunch for the next day with it.  I don't eat out much.  I don't do well with carbs, I would like a more balanced diet, but I would rather wait until I can control that part of my appetite. But I did buy some lc tortillas that I will use later :)

That is what i would suggest packing a lunch so your in control, i get over hungry and make horrible choices.  Maybe pack a protein shake to have when you can't eat dinner until late.

I never eat out, I always have shakes on hand.  But my problem according to the doctors is that I rely too much on shakes and don't eat much.  :(  I'm packing some bars and more calorie dense foods in my desk now :)  Today I brought my roast beef and the always important cucumber salad with me today.  I ended up finishing

Definately dont get discouraged!! I pack a small lunch with lots of protein (Im at school from 11:30 to 3:50 so its not a long time to go with a small meal) and raw veggies. Just keep working hard and the pounds will fall off.
