I just had my gastric bypass on Tuesday, January 31st. I am feeling ok, no real pain to mention and I am not hungry at all. I am able to drink shakes and fluid; the problem is that I feel like I am always dying of thirst. I know I can't gulp water but it seems like these little sips here and there are just not cutting it. Any tips or tricks?

As long as you don't go taking big gulps or chugging your drinks, you'll be fine. Your pouch is nothing more than a funnel and if you drink too much too quickly, if it can't go down - well, you'll see it again.

LOL... thanks so much. One more question, I am having no problems at all getting liquids and the protien shakes down. I am 5 days out now and drinking 8oz an hour is no problem at all...does this mean that my pouch may be too big?

Nope your pouch isn't too big. We all think that early on and sometimes later. Fluids are going through nice and easy. Because it is like a funnel, you can drink more than the egg size it probably is right now.
Right now your nerves are all messed up and not making good connections with your brain. Until more healing takes place, it may be hard to feel real hunger and good judgements of fullness. Once you start taking in firmer foods, measuring and weighing will be very important to gauge the correct amount to eat.
Go ahead and drink to your hearts content and get hydrated. Have you been adding plenty of other beverages ontop of your protein shakes? Early out I enjoyed crystal light and warm tea. I also loved broth with lots of seasonings added. I think I was craving some salt, so that hit the spot.

Na! As Overhauled said - your pouch isn't too big.
Sometimes the pouch is a little more swollen and sensitive and some have a problem with drinking early out - I didn't and obviously, you don't.
Problems with keep well hydrated early post-op is a common issue but you're doing just fine.

Thanks so much for asking this...and thanks Cinwa and overhauled...I too had the same worry!!! Plus to add to that I was worried that if I drank to much to fast it would stretch my pouch...but my too much to fast isn't like it was pre-op...heck I was barely getting 30oz of water a day cause I would sip, sip, sip and there wasn't enough time in the day to get all my fluids plus protien.

Constant sipping adds air too. Every time you take a sip, you take in air - it's an automatic thing.
