So I started having wierd symptoms this morning.  Wanted to run it by someone who might have had a similiar experience.  I am almost 5 months post-op, and have done pretty well so far.  I took a 5 mile walk this morning, not at all unusual, and as soon as I was done, I started having these symptoms as soon as I was done pretty much.  First my left arm started to get a tingly/numb feeling from about the middle of my forearm to the end of my fingers. Then a very little amount of light headedness.  These symptoms have come and gone all day.  Then about 2 hours ago, along with the numbness in my hand, I started feeling numbness in my lips.  Does any of this ring a bell to anyone?  Anyone have a similiar experience?  Please help me if you can.  A friend of mine, who had the same surgery 6 months before me said maybe a vitamin B deficiency.

Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer.

OJ

I think you should get it checked by a Dr- is it on one or both sides? It doesn't sound right to me-

It's only on the left side. It hasn't happened in almost 2 hours now. It was coming and going about every 15 minutes.

I am already taking the sublingual B-12 weekly, is that not the right stuff?

Not all B12 is created equal babe - the majority of supplements come in the form of cyanocobalamin B12 - the better form is methylcobalamin.  This is a good read:  http://www.dadamo.com/B2blogs/blogs/index.php/2004/02/07/cyanocobalamin-versus-methylcobalamin?blog=27

I started on 1,000mcg as cyanocobalamin (sublingual) and my numbers went down the pan quick.  I decided to try methl-B12 before going down the road of shots and it worked well.

I use Jarrows - cheapest is from vitacost - I use this one (1 a week):  http://www.vitacost.com/Jarrow-Formulas-Methyl-B-12-5000-mcg-60-Lozenges

GNC stock Jarrow 1,000mcg lozenge: http://www.gnc.com/p...926275&kwCatId=

Seriously though  - this is something you need to see your doc about soon.  I went down the road of peripheral neuropathy and I wouldn't wish it on my worse enemy.

I've had peripheral neuropathy as well (from Ciguatera poisoning) and I had pain on both sides of my body (it is seriously AWFUL)- one side can mean a trapped nerve, pre-cursor to a stroke or a blockage/ pressure on a nerve of some kind- if it is a vitamin deficiency it has come on really quickly- I would be getting it checked ASAP!

It must be methylcolanine B12 or methyl something , or it wont be absorbed int your system, just a waste, leaving you with no energy.  I just bought mine at natural grocers, or they have them at sun harvest or whole foods or go online type B-12 or B complex and the will suggest both types.  the methyl may be a few dollars but worth it.  I'm pretty old and my dr prescribes me a b12 shot but it is not enough. Get the best for you!

The asmbs.org actually suggest a B-50 complex as an option.  I'd recommend everyone take it.

But it's worth pointing out that intrinsic factor (and/or decreased gastric acid secretion) is essential for the uptake of vitamin B12 in a bypassed patient.  Intrinsic factor secreting parietal cells are located in the stomach lining - without that, we run the risk of B12 deficiency unless we take on B12 in another form - sublingually, nasal spray, patch or injection.
