hey everyone, i was wondering how long to wait before going swimming. Im two weeks post op, i asked my MD, and he was like, well, as long as the incisions are closed. To me they look good, but wondering if anyone had anything else to add, i dont see my MD for four more weeks, and was hoping to go swimming for the 4th of july weekend.

I asked my Dr the same thing and she said as long as it's a private pool and not a public one or a lake/ocean then you can swim about a week after as long as you feel up to it... I'm going to ask again after surgery to be sure because I have seen a lot of posts about this on here and I've seen people say at least 2 weeks or as you said, once the incisions are healed/closed.

I see my Dr on the 30th, and I plan on asking him the same thing, because we always go out of town on the 4th, and I plan on swimming.

I believe you need to wait until your incisions are healed to go into a bath tub/pool/ocean. As for real swimming, I think after 6 weeks since your core is pretty well involved and I was told specifically to avoid activites that involved the core muscle area.

I asked my surgeon when he came to visit me in the hosptial and he said 2 weeks after I leave the hosptial. But I'm sure there will be many answers. I think the important thing is to listen to your body and look at your incisions. If they don't look healed you probably shouldn't.
Starting BMI: 76.4
Pre-op: 78 pounds gone
Post-op: 207 pounds gone (surgery 6/14/11)

Total: 285 pounds gone forever!
11/17/11 - OMG! I am in the 300's from the 500's
10/2/12 - I can't believe I've finally reached the 200's. I am soooooooo happy!

I just had a thread on this a few weeks back...I called me doctors office and this is what I got...they said I could swim as soon as the scabs were totally gone, meaning the incisions were healed. That was the case for me less than two weeks out, so I've went for it with no issues.
