So... I just got a belly ring for New Years and an early weight loss gift to myself but I wish I had thought it out more. :o
I know I have to take my belly ring out but I don't want it to close. What should I do???

The reason you have to take it out for surgery, is because it is a fire hazard. (I thought that was funny, since I have a "twin" pair of piercings, I could just see them catching on fire, it would be like a Vegas show)
Depending on the surgeon/anesthesiologist, etc....you can replace it with a plastic retainer type of barbell, or my surgeon has been known to put a suture in someones piercing to keep it open.
I have had mine long enough that I just took them out and put them back in after recovery.

LoL Oh no... not a Vegas show, at least you would have already been in the hospital... I'm j/p
A plastic retainer sounds ideal; my last appointment prior to surgery is this Monday. I'll ask my doctor if I can insert a retainer. I'll go out this weekend to look for one --- they can be purchased at any body piercing shop right? Thanks for the advice

Ya, you shouldnt have trouble finding a plastic ring at most places that sell body jewlery, or atleast places that do belly button piercings.

They can be expensive at a piercers studio though. I would try Hot Topic if its close to you, Spencers, or Wal-Mart. You should be able to use any barbell with a slight curve. The plastic ones sometimes are pliable, so a straight may work too. Good Luck with you!

@ Kupcake - Thank you
@ Kris - Sorry for the ignorance but I have never heard of or seen a Spencers or Hot Topic here in MD although I do know Wally World very well and will be heading there. I went to two different body shops today and they told me that they don't sell them but I can order a pregnancy one online from Amazon and it will get to me in time for surgery.. Funny thing is, I never knew pregnant people wore belly rings --- I guess you do learn something new every day :)

Don't always trust the crap that is available at Wal-mart, it's very very low grade body jewellery.
This is a website I use a lot, and it is incredibly reliable and the jewellery is great quality.
Body jewelry Bodyartforms plugs, barbells, captives, nosescrews, labrets, and more...
Here is a link for a navel retainer for you

I got my retainer at Wal-Mart. If I lose it, no big deal. Got my nose stud retainers at walmart too.
I had no trouble with my Wal Mart Body jewelry...I'm not sensitive to metals.
