Hello everyone. I am on here for the second time. I am really considering the sleeve surgery. If you have had this done, can you tell me if it was worth it? I have done research and it seems less invasive then GB. The complications also seem less. Any support and suggestions would be great!

Hi there Jackie

Welcome to TT.  I'm pre-op. and waiting to have my Sleeve, hopefully it will be this month.   What you say about the sleeve is correct and is suitable for you particularly if you tend to eat large portion sizes.  Remember any type of WLS is only a tool, the hard work is still there to be done by you.

Complications are less likely,
Less time spent in surgery,
No need for re-routing
Not reversible
It is possible to have a bybass at a later date if needed.
Has a good rate of success
Altermately, more likely to tolarate the same foods as you eat now - just smaller portions.
No dumping.

Well I guess you can see I'm all for the VSG.

Good luck on your journey.

Thank you both. Hychap, best of luck to you. I hope everything goes smooth on operation day.

Josephine,
Did they say when you are in your 70's if you will be able to get the intake you need? That is what I worry about. I don't want to not be able to get everything I need when I am much older. I am excited at the thought of being healthy again. I have a son and a husband who need me around. How bad was the pain? How long was your down time (I know everyone is different)?

Thank you both again so much.

Thank you for the tips. I go to  my seminar on the 20th. I am excited and nervous. How long did the process take? I don't mean just the surgery, but getting approved for it, doing a seminar (if you had to do one), scheduling the surgery, etc.

I am so sorry that you had to go through the crud with the lap band. I bet you are glad not to have to deal with that any more. :D How are you feeling now?

Works great. Simple procedure. Quick recovery.  Zero complications for me.

What is your BMI?  That could make a difference.

Hope to see you back soon!!

Thanks everyone so much for your valuable feedback. I am also caught in a tug of war of whether orn not to have the sleeve done vs Lapband vs to stick with Weight Watchers. I went to my PCP today for his opinion. Surprisingly, he said that my dangers with being 85 pounds overweight was far greater than the surgery risks and he supported me 100%. It also helped that his wife was over 300 pounds and will be going for her band next month. I think I am more and more leaning to the sleeve but am really afraid of the possible "leaking" issues and pan afterward. I guess I just need to take a really big deep breath and go for it. Next step is meeting with the surgeon and from there attending a few of the local support groups and see what current "sleevers" have to say. Once again, thanks all!

I love hearing about the sleeve.  My first touch with it was with the remarkable progress of our wonderful Eric (Oso Del Desierto).  When he brought it up so long ago, it was a totally new thing. Now I see so much activity with the sleeve!  Forward and onward!!!

I'm thrilled for you all!

I had RNY GB, and although I do have to take supplements, I feel great and look so much better, and, most improtantly, I have a life (and check out my age). I work full time, and I square dance twice a week.  This from a person who was in a wheelchair/walker 2 years ago! :)  Yayyyy!!!

Hugs to all you newbies!  Stay excited and follow the rules!

You'll be fine.  Remember, get all the supplies the nutritionist recommended prior to the big day.  Be organized Pre-Op because you cant Post-Op.

Take your Pre-op photos no matter how you hate them.  They will be inspirational later.

Hope to see you on the loser's bench soon.
