i have struggled for years trying to quit smoking. then i am approved for surgery and you would think it would be easy to quit. my pre certification will expire on 11/25 and scheduled my surgery today for 11/9. i have quit smoking on oct 1st but had one slip on oct 5th. on oct 26 i go for all my bloodwork and they will check my nicotine level. i am scared that it will show up.. can any one tell me how long nicotine stays in your blood stream?
or what exactly they are looking for? i had not smoked since and will not

I'm not sure but I think nicotine starts leaving the system around 7 days. Just keep trying I know its hard I quit in '98 for 4 yrs then started back for 18months and then quit again and have not smoked since. I smoked from age 14 to age 39 before I stopped. I was a heavy smoker. It is doable. I found this for you on Go-Articles.com

How long does nicotine stay in my system after I quit smoking?
Answers to this question seem to range from 24 hrs to as long as 20 days, but most experts agree that for the majority of people, nicotine begins to leave your bloodstream in two hours and it takes around 3-5 days for the last traces to clear out. But, as you've probably read before if you've done any research into stopping smoking, it only takes 20 minutes after your last cigarette before your body starts to feel the benefits of quitting!
