I am waiting for the insurance to approves for lap band; however, the more I read about Bypass, the more I am drawn to it.  One thing though, I am so scares that there will be complications and I'll not make it.  I have 3 boys ages 4 and under and they need me.  Could you guys please calm me down?  If I get approve for lap band, I am going to let my ins person resubmit for gastric bypass surgery.

Did any of you have complication?  How soon can I hold my 1 year old again?

Thank you so much,

Alisa.

Alisa,

When I first started my journey, I was sold on Lap-band, even though my General Dr. had highly suggested Gastric Bypass for me.  I didn't even want to talk about that option.  But as time went on, and I learned more about the surgeries, I ended up choosing Gastric Bypass, I'm now almost 6 weeks out and so pleased about my chose.

Either surgery is life changing, and they both come with their own complications.  I have not had any complications yet, but I'm only 6 weeks out.  But so far I feel great!  I would just keep researching each surgery, and ask specific quesitons about what you're worrying about.

Good Luck!

Hi Alisa,
This is a very important conversation to have with your surgeon.  The doctor will help you select the surgery which will help you have the best possible outcome.  Good Luck!

Its a professional that advises what surgery is best and we have to decide on which is best for us !
Rny wasnt offered to me ..... Apparantly I wasnt heavy enough
I think in the uk we have slightly different guidelines .
Ive been banded >>>> doing well my loss isnt fast but Im loosing and that was the aim .
No way could I have lost 50 plus pounds without a tool !!!
I wish u the best of luck in making the right decision for you .

With the band You defo have to be more disiplined !!! we can eat sweet stuff and fats !! no dumping syndrome risk here also we absorb everything ....
Nothing by passes us : every calorie counts !!!!!

Best wishes

I would love to talk to the surgeon; however, he will only talks to the patient after the insurance approves for the surgery.  I guess if the insurance approves for my lap band, I will have a chance to talk to him about both surgery and if he said I am a candidate for bypass, then I'll resubmit for an approval again.

Thanks for you help.  Have a great weekend.

My surgery, Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy, has a lower complication rate than RnY and is about the same as Lap-Band.  You might ask your Dr about it to see if you are a candidate.
