I had RNY on 5/18.  I got pregnant in late June, rather unexpectedly.

My weight loss, while much slower than anticipated, is still occurring..

My question is this - is increasing hunger most likely from the pregnancy?

I have a healthy appetite and dont really eat that much more than I did early on, I just eat more often.

I'm not too concerned since I need the nutrients anyway, but is this to be expected?

Pregnancy early on after gastric bypass is challenging because it's hard to balance the nutritional need of the baby with the mothers change in weight. Most women and babies do well and there are relatively few papers about problems for the infants. Getting a full spectrum of vitamins and minerals is of course most important.

Many women are quite hungry during the second trimester, so I'm sure that's part of it. Secondly, many people start to develop more of an appetite as time passes after a gastric bypass. So I'll bet your appetite come from both. You might post on the gastric bypass portion of the forum to learn from other womens' experiences.

I guess it goes without saying that you should be consulting with your OB regarding appropriate weight change for your stage of pregnancy and work with a registered dietitian if your OB feels that you are not getting adequate intake. Also have your bariatric surgeon or primary care doctor work with your OB to have appropriate labs checked periodically. CBC, Chem panel, Mg, Vits B1, B6, B12, Folate, iron, D, A, E are all important.
