sorry to be gross, but what were your BMs like post op?

(WARNING: Only procede if you aren't grossed out by TMI)

I am wondering bc my NP was concerned had I had a BM (no problem, i had one 5 days post op and then again at 8 days post op) but the way she says BM like it is going to be solid is making me wonder....did every one have normal BMs or just liquidy stuff?  I am not having diarrhea per se, it is more of just a very liquid stool, darkish and definitely not pretty smelling, and it makes me wonder, what should I be expecting?  I get it that I am just taking in liquids so i can't expect solid BMs but at the same time, why does it smell so nasty, as I am only drinking water, broth or protein (w/o milk)?  It also causes a lot of cramping as it is moving through, just like real diarrhea, but it doesn't have the watery/chunky consistancy, it is just all one consistancy....more like a slightly watered down apple butter (same color, just a bit thinner).  So, not to compare as we are all so different, but I actually do want to know if this is what you guys had come across or am I just weird? (ok, don't all answer THAT question!)

My BM's were pretty much like yours and my surgeon told me that it was perfectly normal.

A liquid diet has zero bulk so your stools aren't going to have much substance until you start a full diet.

Something that might help with the smell is to start taking probiotics - you probably need some good bacteria in your gut.

Same here. I was like you for the first couple of weeks. Then I went straight to severe constipation, diverticulitis, severe diahrrea then back to constipation again. Of course with me, having my thyroid removed last year changed all of that, and I've been pretty constipated since then. And no, no matter what it's like for me...when I go, it doesn't smell pretty, lol. Your body just underwent a HUGE change, and you probably can't expect to go back to normal until you've been back on solids for a bit.

Everything went right through me during the liquids phases after surgery. Liquids in, liquids out. Ha!
