Preoperative clearance with PCP

Recommended Posts

I am scheduled for my preoperative clearance with my PCP in a week and am wondering what usually happens during this visit? I haven’t seen my PCP in about a year, my insurance didn’t require a referral so I just made my own appointment with Bariatrics. My pcp doesn’t have record of me asking about doing this surgery. I’m hoping I just go in quick and he clears me.

I’m just nervous about one thing out of all of these things not working out and being denied by my insurance.

Whats a typical experience with clearance from PCP?

So far I’ve passed the nutrition class, psych consult. I just have my pcp clearance, endoscopy, hospital preoperative testing, and last weight check.

Mine just took all my vitals and did an EKG.

I had to have EKG, lung function test and a whole raft of blood tests done as part of my pre-op testing. That happened at the hospital though rather than my doctors office.

My doctor was totally against me having my WLS so it was a benefit that he had no involvement in the process at all.

Hi @Paigetherage how did it go?

Mine was basically like my annual physical and appointment. Clearance for surgery entails being sure you have no acute or chronic conditions that would make your surgery more risky than suspected.

Exact same for me. Then he wrote some notes to go along with it, "43 yo male seeking gastric bypass blah blah.....".
