Two cups sounds like a lot to me and I'm about 6 weeks ahead of you. I'm only having one cup at the most for any meal and even that takes at least 20-30 minutes to get down.

2 cups is a lot for me.  Denser things will fill you up faster.  I measure out ounce on my protein.  The first year it took forever to get to 2 ounces, now I shoot for 4.. then a couple bites of veg or fruit.

I'm getting on for 10 years out and I still stick with 2-3 oz of protein + about 3/4 cup of vegetables (or a little more of salad) per meal.

Regardless, I'd be inclined to check in with your surgeon about the heartburn.  The small pouch created during the surgery has very few cells that can produce acid but left untreated, it could do a lot of damage.
