New Surgery - Drain Port

Recommended Posts

I saw a new weight loss surgery on the news a few days ago. You have a drain port on your belly and it goes to your stomach. After you eat you drain out the food you just ate. Anybody ever heard of this?  Do you know what it's called?  Any thoughts?

Interesting concept, but I would have no interest in having such a procedure. I also have serious doubts about its weight loss effectiveness long term as I suspect that many people who have it would just end up eating more food after they drain their stomach.

I wouldn't go that path just from the infection risk point of view. Swimming is just too big a part of my lifestyle to let it go. Having to stuck the contents out of my stomach three times a day would also put me right off the procedure not only due to the yuck factor but also needing to have the time and right place to do it when away from home.

#%$!!! This is the craziest most counterproductive thing I've ever heard of.

Ive heard of people who refer to any type of WLS as "physician assisted anorexia" but this takes the cake. This is "physician assisted bulemia".

I can't believe the FDA would even think about approving this.

I don't think it does much to retrain anyone from eating the wrong foods.

Am I wrong in thinking that it smacks a little of mechanical purging?
