Question Birth Control-Before and After

Hey guy, I remember my surgeon saying that when I get close to my surgery date I should stop taking birth control.

Does anyone know how long before surgery this should be? And when can I resume?

Also, whats the best method to stop taking them. Currently my period is the same time of my surgery date. How can I alter my period dates, and stop taking them at the same time.

Any advise if good advise....

I don't know the answer to this question but it raised one of my own. (so good job!) I am going through Kaiser and the DR in charge of the bariatric program informed me that in order to have WLS through Kaiser that you have to be on birth control as pregnancy close to surgery can be deadly for baby and you. My problem is this, I have Pseudo-Tumor Cerebri (increased intracranial pressure) and have been told that I can not take birth control as the hormones will increase the pressure even more. I am at a loss as far as what I can even consider due to this. Any ideas anyone?

I had to be pill free the 30 days prior to my surgery date.

I was told that i was to stop birth control a week before surgery. I also started using a secondary form of protection a couple weeks before because I also was due for my period during surgery so I took my green pills (period week) two weeks prior to surgery to force my body to have a period that week instead of the week of surgery. It worked. I essentilly just skipped week three of my birth control pills and all was good.
I had the depo shot right after surgery becasue of birth control absorbancy issues after surgery. Lilu, can you have the depo shot? Then I started back on my regular pills at 6 months out. I have been fine and no babies...thank goodness.

I was not told to quit my birth control, but I'm on Depo Provera so maybe that's why. It's an injection, not a pill.

Why do you have to stop the birth control? No one ever told me to. I'm still dealing with the period that starts a week before my real one tho. It's annoying, but I'm hoping it's a sign that I'm dropping more weight.

No, Kay, I cannot. Birth control that has hormones in it causes the pressure in my brain to go up so I cannot take it. My doctor told me that since I am almost 40 and can't take it that I should consider having my tubes tied, and I am totally opposed to that for myself. I am certain that there has to be a way around this but do not know what it would be. Any ideas would be appreciated.

My surgeon said that birth control has a tendency to form blood clots during and after surgery.
