Default Worried

So I had a physical done with the Dr. I will be using as my PCP. She was wonderful and has had the bypass surgery done 3 years ago so she knows what I am going through and will do anything I need to get this surgery done.

I saw her Tuesday and my leg swelling was concerning to her. She said that if my legs were swollen all the time that I would need a chest x-ray, blood work and an echo done on my heart. I could be in congestive heart failure and not even know it.

I thought at the time that my legs were only swollen by the end of the day or when I stood on them way too much during the day but they were swollen in the mornings with no change that last two days that I have checked.

So I am going in for an x-ray today and whatever else I can get done ASAP. I am really scared and worried about what is going to happen to me and if I will even be able to have this surgery. This is all so scary to me.

I am trying to look on the bright side that if I do have this then hopefully I have caught this sooner than later and they can do something about it.

I talked with the other Dr. today and he said that it could be that my veins in my legs giving out since I had given birth almost 10 months ago and being my second child. But he wants to run the tests so we shall see what happens.
Prayers would be appreciated. Thanks!!

Kerrie,
Much love and prayers coming your way, sweetie. Just try not to worry too much until you know exactly what's going on. The stress will not help anything. Let us know what happens.

So I had an EKG done and that looked great. No problems there.

I just finished the x-ray and waiting at home for my Dr. to call me and let me know if my heart is enlarged.

The next test will be Nov. 13th (Friday) yikes!! For an echo. The Dr. I saw today really thinks my heart is fine and that my leg swelling is from my veins that were destroyed while having my babies.

SO far good news. It just seems each day something is happening that is making my decision to have RNY better and better.

My heart is not enlarged and there was no fluid around it so that was great. He still wants me to do the Echo on my heart on the 13th just to rule everything else out.

I am feeling much better about everything but boy did that scare me. Yikes. It really makes you think about your health and that even at 29 there can be serious problems assoicated to be obese.

Kerrie, I experienced bad ankle swelling the past year or so and especially this summer. It particularly happened whenever I sat down with my legs in the normal down to the floor position. I think a lot of it is caused by lack of movement and the pressure from the weight of our big fat bellies sitting on our laps.
I had some real discomfort from it, sometimes the swelling would go up to my knee. it became a balancing act to keep pressure socks on so I could wear sneakers and play tennis! I even slept in socks once or twice. It was a real drag wearing socks almost all summer, too.
None of my pre-op tests came back showing anything.
Post-op as soon as I returned home from the hospital, I noticed I was not suffering from the swelling. It seems a bit miraculous to me but it is true.
I think your doctor is being thorough but I think you are probably just experiencing another lovely side effect of being super morbidly obese and soon you will be free! Yeah!
How cool that your primary is a GP patient!

Thanks Phatlady. You give me hope .
I can't wait to have this surgery to get on the rode to better health. 6 months seems like a long time and I know it will go by quickly once the holidays get here and all.
