I've personally had some really great advice and some really *lousy* advice from doctors.. so much so that the state of MA censured two of them due to "care" (used loosely) to both my son and myself.. so I rarely tell anyone to listen only to their doctors. They aren't infallible and it is impossible for any one person to be fully and completely knowledgeable on all things.
My surgeon was a fantastic surgeon. My nut was okay but very unbending and not willing to discuss new ideas or research. But they are never my only source of information. Ever.
It is always up to us, as it is our bodies and we will be the ones to suffer the consequences if something goes wrong or awry, to make sure we do our research, ask opinions if we wish (which.. last I checked was what the OP did) and then decide for ourselves. Which in the end, is something that each and every one of us gets to do. Weigh the advice and the comments and then decide based on how valid the research appears, the opinions feel to you and then do what you want.
Its not like any of us have any way of forcing someone to bend to our way of thinking. That said, it's also our choice to voice our opinions or not. If not, then there would be no point of someone asking, would there?

oyster crackers
I get the very tiny oyster crackers and only use about 8 in my soup....they feel me up a little more and I wait until they're really soft in the soup.

ultimately, I'd say go to your local grocery store and spend some time in the aisles looking at nutrition labels. it's something you should be doing anyways.
look for the crackers with the last amount of calories/carbs per serving.
I swear, everyone at my grocery store hates me because I'll spend like half an hour in each aisle comparing nutrition labels back and forth. I try my best to only go when the store is empty

I, of course, am too early in the process to eat any crackers. However, I am wondering of it is the crunch factor you are after. I thought I saw bariatric chips on the Bariatric Advantage web site. You might want to look there and see if I didn't just imagine it.

Yes, crackers were on my list too, and I must admit I ate a few, in my soup because they were on the list. As time went I began to really get educated about carbs/proteins/calories, etc and made a personal decision that crakers might be tolerated, but not the empty calories that go along with them. I don't say I will never eat a cracker (even a saltine) ever again with some nice sharp cheese on top, but not as a regular part of my diet. This little pouch of mine is getting spoiled daily with lots of really healthy choices - yet it still gives me HE** sometimes so I don't know why I'm so nice to it!!!! lol

Hi there...
A great alternative to higher carb crackers is to take a low carb wrap (flat out make a great one) and cut it into whatever size 'crackers' you want. Then micorwave those on a paper towel and they get crunchy. Sometimes I then pop them into the toaster oven to get a little color...
They're great with tuna or cheese, not so much in soup though..
Good Luck with your weight loss,
Tams
