Day one of my practice run
Well, I guess I did OK. Not great, but not terrible. I tried my coffee with the splenda mocha stuff and it was nasty. I ended up putting a tad bit of cream in it. I only drink one cup at home and one at work..so, not a huge deal. Sometimes I dont make any at work at all--so I figure one tsp of cream a day cant KILL me, right?
I had a greek yogurt for a snack with the mocha splenda in it. It was good.
Then, i had a salad for lunch.
My husband was making smoked sausage for dinner for him, and i told him i just wanted ONE...but, then I dug around and had chicken and tossed it into my big ol' salad instead. Yay ME.
I think the worst part of the day has been the drinking with meals. I am dying of thirst now and it has only been 15 minutes since I ate. I think this will be the hardest part. Besides for walking past that pumpkin pie sitting on my counter and NOT getting a slice. That is pretty hard too. I may have to throw it away.
So, does the not drinking with meals get any easier?

Not drinking with meals does get easier. You just get used to it. Also, if you drink a lot between meals, so you're really well-hydrated, you won't get as thirsty with your meals. Not saying you won't still get thirsty at all, just not as much.

Yes. You just have to stay hydrated between them.

I hope it gets better...I may be feeling like this because the salad and chicken were both pretty dry...i only used a little dressing. But, it is about time I can get a drink again...so hopefully i wont DIE of thirst in the next 20 seconds (when i get up and go get a drink from the kitchen.)

My surgeon did actually tell me that if I needed a little sip of water during a meal, that was fine. He said I could have enough to "wet my whistle" if needed. So occasionally I do take a small sip.

Yes drinking does get easier. I have watched my salt intake during the meals so im not so thirsty afterwards. I to take a lil just to wet the whistle. For me i basicly swish it in my mouth and spit it out and whats left use that to wet my throat.

Definitely gets easier...it will be like second nature after awhile. I'm 2 1/2 months out and I don't even think about drinking with meals anymore.

I'm sure you'll get used to not drinking with your meals...I did and drank a huge glass of milk with every meal my whole life and I'm now used to it. I can't even take a wee sip with my meals - it causes me too much pain, so I wait out the 20 minutes and drink between meals like others have said. That pumpkin pie is probably delicious, but put it away in the fridge and cover it so you don't see it every time you go in there. Gotta keep your resolve to do your pre-op practice run!!! You've done well today and only you can control what you will do for the rest of the practice. Keep us up to date with your progress. So far you are doing very well.

Well, spoke too soon. I had a piece of pie. Dammit. But only HALF what i would have had yesterday, so that is something. AND I didnt go back for another pieces, so that is even better. Grrrr. Tomorrow, I will not have ANY---that will be better yet, right?
I wonder if I would have been better off to eat one of the protein shakes instead?
By the way, I order the sames from the Celebrate people---actaully, they were free...and it included all the Chike flavors (that i DID actually order as well.) I just wrote them Friday or Saturday and I already got them today and there wasnt even a charge for shipping. That makes me want to order from them for now on. That is awesome customer service if you ask me.

Okay, so you had 1/2 of what you normally would have and didn't go back for more. Its a danger food - you have to get it out of your house - send it to work with your hubby or give it to a neighbour or something. Tomorrow is a new day. Don't sweat it. The shake would have probably been a better choice and you can do that tomorrow. Its so bloody hard to walk past your favs - the surgery will help with that - first you detox for some time before surgery, then your tummy is just too tiny to put much in there so you want really good food and your tastes will change.
When you have a craving, do something physical, have a drink of water or crystal light or knit or read - you probably won't eat while you are doing a project or reading. Like I said, don't beat yourself up. Tomorrow is a new day!
