Has anyone tried these products? I was in WL Support Group on Wednesday and one of the girls had a Protein Latte and swears by this line.

I have started trying different things to prepare myself for surgery in December and thought I should find some protein shakes & bars that I like prior to surgery.

I'm having a very hard time finding a protein shake that I can manage to drink without gagging, so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

BTW, her is the site for the Belive line: BariatricEating.com - BE, Inc. The number one bariatric website for protein, vitamins, and success.

Thanks in advance!

I like the Chike protein drinks best. They are smooth just like a milkshake.

Here's a couple of tips.

First- Post-Op my taste buds changed completely. Things I liked before I couldn't stand the taste of after. I know this is common. So what you think you like know, you might not like later.

Second- I went out and bought a bunch of shakes and bars and all sorts of things, that I ended up just giving away at the support group meetings I ran because by the time I could really benefit from it, it would have gone bad, or as I said, I just didn't like.

Maybe this product line has a sample pack you could buy. One of each flavor. Then post-op you can try them and see which ones you like. Don't invest a bunch of money in something that might not work for you later. There will be plenty of time to get things later. Good luck to you!

I thought about ordering those Protein Latte's because they have 20 grams of protein. I am so paranoid that I am not going to get enough protein in that I am looking for whatever has the highest protein.

I guess I should just hold off and see what I can handle after the surgery rather than just continue to waste money.

I thank you for your responses and helpful insite.

Ditto what Eyes said. I have 4 tubs of powders I now hate that I liked pre op. Get as many samples as you can. Vitalady.com is a great source for them.

My go to powder is the Isopure Low Carb in the Dutch Chocolate and Vanilla. I can turn them into almost anything. And at 110 calories for 25g of protein I have yet to find a whey isolate that tastes better and packs more punch for the calories. It allows me to add things like the PB2 or Sugar Free chocolate sauce to it without making it 300+ calories. I actually look forward to my shakes. I know, I am a weirdo.

Thank-you all for this thread! I tend to try to over prepare and I was heading to the Vitamin Shoppe tomorrow to stock up on protein drinks.... However... will put that on hold and purchase a small amount!
I was wondering if anyone has tried the unflavored protein crystals in a homemade sugar free popsicle or even just mixing it in something else?
I too have a really high gag reflex... even before surgery!

I ordered the sample pack before surgery and broke into it after. I LOVED the mocha protein drink but, can not justify the price of 12 bottles. I do order the "Oh Yeah" protein bars from there to toss in my purse just in case.

I have not heard about the protein crystals. Guess it's off to Google for me

Definitely, definitely, definitely get samples. Do not stock up until after surgery. If you have to have protein shakes for a pre-op diet, try some out ahead of time and find one you like, then order just enough to get you through the pre-op diet. Then have lots and lots of samples on hand to get you through the first week or so at home after surgery. Don't count on liking the same thing you liked pre-op after surgery. You might still like it, but there is a good chance you won't. Don't buy a big tub of anything until you've tasted it, no matter how many other people tell you it's delicious. They might all love it, but you might not.

There are several places you can get samples:

Vitalady.com - Protein Supplements, Vitamins & Minerals, and Safe Snacks!
Chike Nutrition - Best Tasting Meal Replacement Shake. Guaranteed. Pour, Shake, Drink & Go!
UNJURY Medical Quality Whey Protein Isolate. Great Tasting Whey Protein Supplements for Everyday Health! High Protein and High Quality.

Sometimes you can also get samples at GNC. And if you do buy a tub of something at GNC and don't like it, they will let you return it as long as you have your receipt. Yes, even if you've opened it and tried some.

First I want to say I would be very careful about Protein Bars, they can be loaded with sugar, and a lot of other things that you really don't need, so make sure you really check them out. And also most Ive tried are very dense and the taste isn't so great.

As far a shakes, I would say you really need to check out some vitiamin shoppes. they are going to have a wide selection, plus you should be able to get samples. I go the the Vitiamin Shoppe and I love it. However there is also GNC. Now for me I get the Jay Robb ( tropical dreamsicle 25 grams of protein ) I usually put some ice in my blender ( magic bullet ) and then I put in the Jay Robb, a little OJ and I usually add some Fage ( greek yogurt 18 grams of protein there ) and I blend. It comes out so creamy and taste just like a orange julius. That is 43 grams of protein in that one shake.

With the Jay Rob you can get the single serving packs, so you don't spend a lot on a big container, unless you like it. They also have other flavors.

The Chick is good to. I just usually stick with Jay Robb.

So in short my best advice is check out the vitiamin stores. Best of luck to you.
