If nothing else I really like all the different recipes they have. I agree I would get samples.

I started reaching out to a few of the companies asking for samples. I do not have to be on any sort of protein diet prior to the surgery, but I have a serious gag reflex (sorry for being so graphic) that I am worried I'm not going to be able to get anything down.

I'm hoping I can find something with the samples that are coming.

Thanks for all of your feedback.

? lol.. you're new around here, aren't you

that is far from graphic around here, honey! lol..

(and wow- another Kelly! lol.. we're multiplying, heh)

As for getting samples, that is totally the smart thing to do.. and even once you do find something you like.. unless you're a vegetarian, you probably won't need a lot anyway... (or if you have 'issues')... I don't think in the 22 months post op that I've actually finished two whole jars of protein powder, in total.

My favorite (though I don't know if there are samples available or not) is Optimum Nutritions "Any Whey".. it is the only heat stable protein I know of so I can stir it into my hot coffee, soups and even bake w/ it if I wanted. And you can buy a huge container at amazon.com for a good price.

Your tastes WILL change post-op. Before surgery, I had no problems with protein drinks. Even if they didn't taste very good, I could usually handle em fine. However, after... I had MAJOR problems w/ protein drinks. Even sucking down 4oz was a HUGE chore. I hated it. I was soooo happy when I started to be able to eat enough protein. I ditched the protein drinks and haven't looked back since. I get between 75-100g of protein without protein drinks. :0)

Anyway... those mocha drinks look kinda tasty! i love coffee and would like to try these out. I may buy some. Also.. those supreme protein bars look delic. lol. I don't like how nothing on here has cal content tho.

I swear by the protein chips that Kay's naturals make... they were available on this site. They're pretty tasty. They satisfy the need for something crunchy and only have i think 130 cals yet 10g of protein for an ounce. Awesome.

I am VERY cautious about the protein bars and pay very close attention to the labels. The Oh Yeah Smart Grabs are really great in numbers and in taste. I picked up a chocolate, carmel, peanut one over the weekend that tasted just like a "Snickers" bar. I also love the Rock N Roll bars those taste just like Pay Days (Kel was with me when I tried that one and she agreed)

That one was tasty.. I didn't read the numbers on it, but I suspect that for someone longer out, like me could eat the whole thing in one sitting and that might be too high in calories for a snack though. I

I keep a bar in my purse for outright emergencies and replace it when I eat it, but it's usually a kashi flax bar.. sometimes one of the clif bars, both of which I think are smaller than that one. If you're only eating part of it, I suspect it wouldn't be an issue. That one was sooo much like a real honest to goodness candy bar that it kind of scares me, LOL..

The rock n roll bar breaks down to:

290 Cals
16g total fat
25g total carbs
6g dietary fiber
2g surgar
19g net carbs
350mg sodium
21g protein
40mg calcium 1.44mg iron.

That bar took me a lil over a week to eat. Kept it in the fridge and had a nibble in the morning before the gym.

The Oh yeah breaks down to:

190 cals
70 cals from fat
8g total fat
3g saturated fat
2g polyunsaturated fat
60mg sodium
17g total carbs
3g fiber
4g sugar
8g sugar alchol
15g protein

This one tasted like a "Snickers" bar and it took me 2 days to eat.

I do not eat the bars daily but, have them for emergencies. I do have to say that they were just perfect when I was having those that time of the month cravings for sweet n salty.
