Good News and Bad News....
So I went to my appt with my surgeon today. I have working through this as a self-pay. I have completed everything that he asked of me stop smoking for at least 8 wks, lab work, EKG, pre-op nutrition class, support group meeting, pysch eval, etc... The only thing left was to lose the last 6 lbs of the 33 he required me to lose before surgery.
So...I went in today, excited and hoping that he might go ahead and schedule my surgery date. After thinking all this time that my insurance wouldn't pay, it looks like they very well might for medical necessity (it's necessary) So....that's absolutely wonderful news BUT bad news is I have to do 4 more months of supervised diet. I know that I shouldn't complain. 4 more months isn't that long in the big scheme of things and I know lots of people on here have had to wait a lot longer than that to get their date but I had been thinking all along that my surgery would be any day, so now I'm a little disappointed.
They said they would go ahead and set the date for me and do it now as cash-pay if I wanted but if there's a chance that the insurance will pick up the tab, then I know it's stupid not to wait the 4 months. So, I'm trying to look at the positive side ($20,000 will be a great start towards saving the $$ I know I'll need for the plastics) 'cause I know I will have to have some when I reach my goal) but I'm still a little sad that it will be at least 4 more months. So ready to start my new life.

Goodnews Bad News
Just wanted put my 2 nickels in..
I have been smoking most of my life, and now its been 2 months since I've quit.
My surgeon was very adament about not doing my surgery since i was still smoking.
I wish I would have quit a long time before I gave my Oath to my doctor to quit.
November 1, will be that 2nd month, and I feel , smell, act, breath so MUCH better
It will be worth it ! I promise you
< former smoker, and doesn't want a CIG .

Oh, I'm sorry you have to wait. I do think it's worth it, though, if your insurance will pay for it. Save that money for plastics! Or new clothes, or a vacation, or something.

There are a lot of issues about this ride and the surgery is only a step in it all. I am sure it is hard to wait but in the big picture, it is entirely worth the wait, if there is a chance ins. will cover you. Hang in there. Your turn is coming...

I am sorry you have to wait longer than you thought. I know you were expecting it at a certain time and now that you have to wait.. It sucks and I would imagine it would make it hard to be grateful that the insurance company may pay. It's going to happen the way it should and man, 20k to go shopping with or have ps or vacation as kelly mentioned, woo freakin hoo!

Socal Mom, you are SO right. I had been thinking for a while that I needed to quit but when the doc said "no smoking for at least 8 weeks" I said Okay. I went home, set on my porch and smoked a couple right in a row. Threw the rest in the trash and haven't looked back. The funny thing to me is, I don't really miss it all that much and food tastes soo much better now. (which is a blessing and a curse LOL). Thanks for the encouragement.
Kelly, Ardita and DSWofford, thanks for the encouragement. I know I was whining a little bit last night and I am extremely grateful that there is even a chance that ins will cover it. After reading some of the journeys some people have been on trying to get to the approval stage, I know that my journey may very well have just begun. I guess I was just having a little bit of a pity party last night because I was a little disappointed.
But today I am focusing on the positive. Four months will pass in a flash with the holidays right around the corner and by the time my 4mnths are up, I will be graduating college so I guess I could consider it a graduation present to myself.
Thanks for the encourgament & I will just keep plugging along,
Breanna

4 more months will be a piece of cake! Trust me.... coming from someone that been through the insurance process for a year...it goes by so fast. You can also kick the smoking to the curb. You're one tough woman who's been dealt a rough hand but you still managed to come shining through. I *KNOW* you can do this and you'll kick ass at it!

Thanks for the kind words of support Chrissie. I cannot imagine even going through the whole insurance thing for a year or more and you still have such a positive outlook abou it. I just don't know if I could be that patient.
Everyone is so king and encouraging on this board, it's like having your own personal cheerleading section.
