Default food at the family reunion

OK, I think I have to go to this family reunion. I don't really wanna go but Mike wants to. I knew it was coming up but I didn't think we were going because he just got a new job and can't get any time off work. But now he says he thinks he wants to go and that we would leave on Friday night when he gets home from work. It's somewhere on the other side of Pennsylvania. We wouldn't get there until about midnight. Blah.

And I don't know anybody and I'm shy. Yes, really. I'm shy.

But the food is the big thing I'm worried about. People are staying in these condo-things, I think. So I'm pretty sure there is a fridge and probably a stove, too. I can find that out for sure. So theoretically I could pack food and even cook there. I'd have to pack the food in a cooler with ice, 'cause it's a long drive there, remember? And other people are gonna be cooking, I think. So I don't know how easy it would be for me to cook something.

Apparently they are having a huge dinner on Saturday. But they are having it catered, I don't think they are cooking it. They are having turkey and ham and green beans and mashed potatoes, I hear. Well, I don't eat meat. But I could eat green beans and mashed taters. No protein there, though.

Then they are just having tons of junk food. These pepperoni rolls that everybody loves but I can't eat 'cause they have meat in them. Chips. Cookies. Doughnuts for breakfast. All this stuff I can't eat.

Mike suggested I take my blender and make protein shakes. And I probably will. But I don't know what else I'm gonna eat besides that. And can I pack milk in a cooler in the car for six hours? Or should I try to find a place to buy milk when we get there at midnight?

My gosh family reunions are such a food fest, what is the deal? Like everyone needs all of that stuff to relate to each other ! I wondered Kelly, can you eat cereal (dry) with skim milk? I was wondering about soggy corn flakes or corn chex? I love dry cereal now and wonder if it will work post op. Maybe some soft boiled eggs?

That's a good point Diann. People need food to buffer or enhance the feelings we have.. I sure did/still do. What a journey this is going to be..

Kelly, what about soy nuts? Do you like those? I have a hard time with temptation. I have asked my Husband to hide the icecream when he brings it in the house. If I find it I eat it and once I start, I can't stop. To me icecream is crack...

Diann, cereal does not sit well in my pouch. I loved it before surgery but now, not so much. I've eaten it a couple times, but I never buy it anymore because it just feels too heavy and kind of icky. I did have some not long ago when I spent the night at my sister's house because that was pretty much all she had for breakfast. It doesn't make me sick or anything, just doesn't feel great.

I can do eggs.

Dswofford, I've never actually tried soy nuts! I wonder if I can find them anywhere around here? Do regular grocery stores usually have them?

I'm not worried about eating the junk food that I shouldn't have. I dump on sugar so I avoid it like the plague. I will not be tempted. I can eat small amounts of fatty stuff like chips, but too much of that bothers my stomach, too, so I know I won't overdo it. Dumping is a great deterrent for me.

I'm just worried about starving! And not getting enough protein. Although we aren't leaving until dinner time on Friday, so I can get plenty of protein in before we even leave. And we'll be home again by Sunday evening, so I can have a protien shake when we get home. So I guess it won't kill me if I'm a bit short on protein on Saturday.

I know this sounds horrible but I do hope I am one of those who can't tollerate sugar. It's my downfall and some negative reinforcement would be appriciated.

I am not sure about the nuts being in your store. I can find mine in the isle with the bins and I think I just recently found them in a bag. They are sooo good. Great on salads and they have that perfect crunch so they are great for a little snack.

Check this out..

Genisoy | Soy Nuts

Not sure on the shipping, but may be worth a shot...
